Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megan Holly. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Megan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The word mission for me reads and feels more like a promise. To myself, to my community, to my clients, and even my loved ones. I live and create in my life and business on a promise to leave the world a better place, first and foremost. I challenge myself often to check in with what value I bring to those I support. Are my offers accessible and helpful? Do they create safety and support? Are they expansive and inclusive?
When I ask myself these questions in conjunction with staying solid on my promise – I know I am showing up and creating as my best self and in turn making an impact. My promise statement is to create a safe haven for those around me so that they have a safe space to land, explore, hunker down in, and grow within. I promise myself (and others) that I will always forge through to a version of myself that is comfortable in my skin and within my own mind. I also promise to ignite others to find their best selves through creativity, movement, and community.
I uphold these promises and mission by doing self check in’s regularly, being open to opportunity and growth, and creating boldly in my life so that others can see they can do the same. I believe we all have the power to create a life, business, and relationships that feel like home and I will forever keep that sentiment at the core of my mission and my life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As a lifelong learner, I have always been hungry to grow. I see life and business as a beautiful journey through personal development and I am where I am today because of that mindset. As a branding photographer, I see so many amazing people step in front of my camera over the years. Because it is such a vulnerable place to exist, I noticed that the process could be enriched by adding in all that I have learned over the years in a unique way.
From my lifetime of dancing and educating in the dance industry to my human development background that helps me understand better how we operate…I began cultivating a deeper way to bring my clients to life in front of the camera. Making the time we spend together more sacred, productive, and FUN!
I also expanded my offerings into my confidence coaching, because I saw a need for more expansion within the population I was working with body, mind, and spirit. My coaching is something that helps others (including myself) to open up new ideas, break our our barriers, and release what no longer serves us…to help create a life and business that not only feels good, but moves you in the direction of your vision. No staying stuck when you are working with me!
Lastly, I’ve expanded to the podcast and YouTube world, as well as stages, because I believe the more we come together in enriching our minds and our lives, the more we all heal. These platforms and opportunities give us more community, something I am so passionate about. My content is filled with ideas, tips, and information that not only comes from the heart, but is forward moving!
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I had to unlearn (and still have to work through from time to time) is that it’s HARD and OVERWHELMING to grow your goals to their biggest fruition. I am no stranger to hard work, dedication, and hunkering down to take action. But with action must also come TRUST and SUPPORT. Trust that what you are working towards can be achieved, really and truly. Many times it looks exactly like you envisioned and other times it does not. But when you release and allow for expansion of your mindset to ‘relax’ into the process, that matched with action, will work time and time again.
A few ways I tap into the ‘releasing expectations’ side of making a goal flourish is by adding ease into my everyday life, ESPECIALLY when I am working towards a bigger outcome or project. Dancing and movement help bring your energy into the right place, as well as playfulness. When we invite our ‘lighter’ side in, we find more abundance, creativity, and connection. I also remind myself when I am enjoying the beautiful parts of life (like a warm sunny day or a refreshing walk with a friend,) that ‘I call in ease and momentum the most when I am free doing what I love.’
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To create for a living is a lifelong dream come true! There is a bit of a bittersweet aspect to ‘creating’ as a means of building a business. When you have a passion for making things, creating new concepts, and paving new paths…when you turn it into your livelihood in the way of ‘work,’ it changes your relationship with it.
So although it is rewarding to get to create in SO many ways within my business, I do have to keep some parts sacred. My way of creating is through photography, staging, editing and creative content on my social media platforms for my clients and community and I love it so much. It really lights me up to connect with others in this way and be a portal to them feeling more loved, creative, and powerful.
That being said, I also create just to create through DIY projects around my home, dancing, and dabbling in other creative mediums as much as possible. Having pieces of my creative artistry that are my ‘business’ and others that support simply my soul are what make it so rewarding in the end. Most of my life is spent being fascinated by creations or being the creator and it’s such a beautiful thing to realize.
