Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megan Holley. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Megan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success comes as a result of consistency and perseverance. So often people quit after not getting the results they want, but their actions have not changed. Showing up every day and working 100% (not 50%) will garner results over time. As you continue to do the work, you’ll see change. It is almost never immediate. I am a believer that success is a long-game and you must stay the course.
I began my real estate career in January 2023, and I did not make my first sale until September 2023! I closed a few leases in that 9-month time frame, but the real money comes from home sales. I knew going into this profession that it would take some time to see results. I showed up each day, made phone calls, sent text messages and emails, went on appointments, and continued to have conversations and build relationships. Week after week and month after month I followed up with past contacts and and made new acquaintances, and soon enough, I had signed a buyer and a seller. Because of my consistency over the course of those 9 months, I was able to build a pipeline of clients and potential clients who I am still in contact with today.
Now, I am not a unicorn selling 100 homes a year, but as I continue to build my clientele and establish my career with consistency, I do believe this goal could be a reality in the future! With 3 homes sold so far in 2024, several leases closed, one home under contract, and 4 more signed clients, work is steady. My favorite saying goes like this…”The only way to fail is to quit.” Keep showing up for yourself and you’ll reap the rewards!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m a native Texan with a 4-year stint in New York City. My background is in fundraising and event planning, however I moved into sales in 2017 and became self-employed. I love the flexibility of being my own boss and not having a cap on my income. I was a top leader with an essential oil company with sales over $100,000 a month. This job was life-giving with great community and it afforded to me to purchase my own house in 2019. When the pandemic hit, sales took a dive, and I found myself looking for another opportunity to use my experience and strengths. I thrive on building relationships and helping people, and real estate seemed like the perfect fit! You definitely need some resilience in this career, and thankfully I had just that.
My passion is working with people relocating to or from the Austin, TX and the Hill Country area. I have been here 10 years and have a great pulse on this city. I can also recommend countless coffee shops, happy hours, and fun things to do! You can find me over at @megan.m.holley on Instagram!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Yes, I mentioned having to pivot when my sales took a dip during and after the pandemic. While my career changed (wellness sales to Realtor), my skills and the business goals stayed the same. I continue to help people now to find or sell homes, and still have the tenacity I’ve always had whether planning events, raising money, selling wellness products or real estate.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I began consistently posting on Instagram in 2015. Over the course of 6 years, I grew my following to over 10K, and that came as a result of catering to a very specific niche. Those years my content was about wellness using essential oils and other products, and people looking for those tips came to my account and stayed. Since then, my account had evolved and I share local Austin spots as “Your Austin Bestie.” You also must keep up with the changes. When Reels were introduced, I learned and posted them! I always say posting is better than perfect. Post content daily (minimum 5 times a week). Offer advice or a solution to a very specific audience, be consistent, and your following will grow!
