We recently connected with Megan Gibbs and have shared our conversation below.
Megan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
Yes. I manage my social media. & it has been so challenging trying to keep up with posting on social media as well as perform my services & run a business. But I love the challenge. I love creating my educational graphics as well as editing the reels/videos for my feed. I’m so picky when it comes to certain things so I don’t think I’d ever be able to hand the reins over to someone else to run my social media pages.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
For those of you who do not know me, my name is Megan. I’m an esthetician/business owner. I’ve always had a passion for skin & skincare. I never thought about making a career out of it until late 2018. I always thought I’d continue on the path to become a nurse. I was working nights at Wolfson Childrens Hopsital when I decided to explore something I love & turn it into a career. I started school & got my esthetics license. I’ve worked a couple places before deciding to become a solo esthetician. It happened way sooner than I thought but I’m so thankful it did! I am so proud of myself for what I’ve accomplished so far. When I very first opened I was only doing select facial services. Now, I offer microneedling, dermaplaning, Hydrofacials & lash lift & tints. I will continue with education so I will be able to expand my service menu in the future. Eventually, I’d love to own my own spa & have employees work alongside me!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Organically, literally. I work so hard in creating educational graphics for my followers (clients, other estheticians or people who may not live around me). It’s a lot of work that goes into creating content for your viewers & also have your page look “aesthetically pleasing” so it grabs the viewers attention. I’ve put in quite a bit of money running ads in my area to reach even more people, gain new clientele & gain new followers.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
To become more patient & understand thing take time. Meaning “success doesn’t happen over night” for most people, anyways. I’m not going to lie, I came into this thinking “I’ll have a full clientele within a year.” Well that’s not the case. I guess I didn’t realize how much work, determination & patience goes into getting potential clients attention, peeking their interest & getting them in the door. I’ve also had to get over my fear of talking to strangers, walking up to people to hand out flyers or business cards & talk with them about my business. Over the last year or so, I’ve definitely gotten more comfortable when it comes to talking with people. I love that for me lol
