We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Fine. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.
Hi Megan, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
In a world full of selfies and tiktok videos, I hope that my legacy will be one of sharing stories. As I travel and create photo/video content, one of my main goals is to give that content a fruitful meaning. To share stories of people and locations that not everyone may have access to. Or to give meaning to a simple photo that may help someone through a tough time. When taking photos of people, I hope that it can give them confidence that goes deeper than just a like or a comment on social media. My favorite moments are when people finally see their own beauty through a different eye.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, my name is Megan Fine and I am a lady with many hats. My night job is as an ER nurse and my day job is to help facilitate yoga at retreats and to document all of the experiences as we travel.
To get here, I just followed inspired action. The nursing led to the yoga and photography just as outlets and those grew to be a beautiful blend of what is happening now. The drive to keep trying new things and growing led me to a community with shared values and big beliefs about what is possible.
In the photography world, there are so many different genres and I connect deeply to the yoga and retreat world. I am proud to have found a way to link all of my passions. Part of this success is continuing to reanalyse why I am doing this work and to trust the mentors that keep new projects rolling. I also absolutely enjoy being with people no matter what arena it’s in.
I have a pretty wild schedule and when people look at my calendar, its usually a similar reaction of disbelief. I am 100% dedicated to this path and most of the time it feels like ease when it’s time to show up and do my passion work. The discipline to keep going and stay focused on my growth too is essential.
Providing a fun and easy going experience is part of what I offer in my photography and videography. I aim to give my clients what they are envisioning and make it a joyful time as well. I believe one of the things that sets me apart is my presence. People seem to relax with me and it makes any event just feel really smooth.
What I am most proud of is always being willing to hear constructive feedback and doing my best to give my clients what they are looking for. I am not afraid to make things happen even if it means we shoot again. My goal is to co-create something beautiful for both of us.
I just invested in more gear to make this possible and I’m thrilled to be able to provide more clear vision for future projects.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
The way I have been able to build the gear needed for photo/video work is through my original job as a nurse. People see me traveling on social media and that is awesome. The more real side if this freedom comes from working long hours in my current job. It is setting me up to take a step away from my current situation in the near future. For now though, I am putting in the hours and giving myself grace on the long stretches because it really is paying off.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the idea that growth happens quick. Growing a business and a brand takes time and energy. When I was first starting out, I just offered free photos to anyone that would do them with me and now it has grown to offering me a life beyond my wildest dreams. So, have some grace with yourself and your vision. It will come together and if you put yourself out there, it can pay off immensely.
