Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megan Fenno. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Megan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
After graduating from Savannah College of Art & Design with my BFA in fashion & accessory design, I moved to Austin, Texas with my husband for his first job out of college. We had so much student loan debt after graduation, that we decided whomever got a job in the field first, we would move there.
I’ve always dreamed of mixing my passion of designing jewelry with my love of the idea of entrepreneurship. With that said, I founded FENNO FASHION in 2007. There was no Instagram, Facebook business pages, Twitter or websites that are easily built in a day. It took some time to build up the business, but has been so fulfilling and I’m grateful I get to do what I love every day.
Megan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When I was in high school, my first job was at Michael’s Arts & Crafts store. I was quickly promoted to the store’s event coordinator where I helped manage classes and events within the local store. We needed a jewelry instructor and I offered to step up, learn the craft and teach. I fell in love. Though out the rest of high school and through college, I remained the events coordinator & a jewelry design instructor – even transferring stores after moving to Savannah, Georgia to attend Savannah College of Art & Design,
As a jewelry designer, I sell my jewelry online (http://www.fennofashion.com), wholesale to local boutiques and at markets.
In 2018, I added a mobile boutique to the business and that has been the best decision I’ve ever made. What was once a former plumbing truck, my husband and I spent over 500 hours renovating the truck into the beautiful little boutique it is today.
Customers have fell in love with the truck and it definitely sets my business apart from others.
Side note: More info about the business and how I started can be found here: https://fennofashion.com/pages/about
Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
As a business owner, it’s so important to evolve over time.
I had a neighbor that owned a funeral home. He had mentioned on several occasions that I should consider creating remembrance accessories, which is creating jewelry using flower petals from the service of a loved one or special occasion.
I sat on the idea for several years before taking action, but now it’s become a huge part of my business and we truly enjoy bringing comfort to those who have lost a love one.

As for multiple revenue streams, that couldn’t have been more important during the pandemic and we were quickly able to pivot and focus on parts of the business that brought in revenue.
Events and markets have always been a big part of the business. I enjoy taking the mobile boutique out and love interacting with customers.
When everything shut down in 2020 and there were no events, it was an easy transition to focus more on the website, custom orders and remembrance jewelry.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honestly, it’s a fairly simple answer. Excellent customer service. Sometimes it can feel like good customer service is hard to come by!
