Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Megan Dunbar. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Megan, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I’ve always been a strategic risk-taker throughout my adult life. Some of those risks didn’t pan out, but the ones that did have shaped who I am and unlocked my true potential. The biggest example of this was my decision to move to Charlotte, North Carolina, to pursue a career in motorsports.
I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a focus on photography, driven by my dream of capturing race cars through my lens. After graduation, I took the leap—leaving behind friends and family in South Carolina—to relocate to Charlotte, the mecca of motorsports. I didn’t know a single person there and had to rebuild my life from the ground up, waiting tables just to pay rent while chasing opportunities.
That leap of faith eventually paid off. The winding path of my career led me from aspiring motorsports photographer to launching an entire sports car series—where I was no longer just capturing the story, but operationally shaping it. That risk has propelled me to where I happily am today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My passion for motorsports started in Michigan, where I grew up going to races with my Dad. That early love for the sport led me to study photography at the University of South Carolina with the dream of capturing race cars through my lens. After graduating, I took a leap of faith and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina—the motorsports mecca—leaving behind family and friends to chase that dream. I started from scratch, waiting tables to get by, and eventually worked my way into launching a sports car series, shifting from photographing races to helping lead and shape them. That journey fueled my career in motorsports, where I’ve gained experience in event management, logistics, and team leadership. Beyond race weekends, I create content with the goal of making motorsports more accessible and inspiring more women to get involved. My mission is simple: to share clear, purposeful stories that open doors and help build a more inclusive future for the sport that first inspired me from the grandstands with my Dad.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a creative is hearing from people who say my content gave them a clearer, more approachable understanding of motorsports—something they could truly connect with. I stay true to the idea that my work is about building a community, not creating a competitive space.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One lesson I’ve had to unlearn—and continue to work on—is the belief that every piece of content has to be perfect. As a perfectionist and overthinker, I used to get caught up in angles, filters, and comparing myself to other creatives. But I’ve realized that my best-performing content, even the pieces that went viral, were often the ones I created quickly and authentically. At the end of the day, I’m not those other creators—my content is a reflection of me. That’s something I remind myself of daily, and it keeps me grounded in why I started.
