We recently connected with Megan & Christa Reeves and have shared our conversation below.
Megan & Christa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
I have had the pleasure of not only working for my mother, Dr. Christa Reeves, as an intern, but as a fellow audiologist. She is the reason I’m an audiologist today and the reason I was able to start my own practice right out of school. She bravely entered the private practice world on her own over 7 years ago and I admire the grit it took for her to get to where she is today. She started out on her own and now she owns a highly successful practice that is becoming more well-known across the state and throughout the audiology world today. It inspires me to work hard in my practice and to develop it into something that is just as unique and beneficial to people as Little Listeners is. She allowed me the opportunity to develop my own practice alongside of hers and I’m looking forward to what we can accomplish together.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Little Listeners, owned by Dr. Christa Reeves, is a full-service auditory clinic specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of auditory processing disorder. Auditory processing disorder, in simple terms, is “What the brain does with what the ear hears” -Jack Katz. Sometimes information gets lost or garbled on its way to the processing center of the brain and our therapy was developed to assist in the eventual cleaning up of that message. Helix Audiology, owned by Dr. Megan Reeves, is an adult auditory clinic specializing in fitting hearing aids. The priority of Helix Audiology is that you are not just fitted with a device, but you have the care and attention you deserve during the lifespan of the hearing aid. We offer an extended warranty based on technology level that allows for the patient to be covered during the entire lifespan of the hearing aids. There is no copay for visits and we welcome walk-ins when the audiologist is in clinic. Little Listeners and Helix Audiology often collaborate to combine the bottom-up therapeutic approach of auditory training with the top-down therapeutic approach of wearing a hearing aid to assist with the most difficult hearing aid user or children with APD who need extra assistance.
Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
When it comes to our practices, Little Listeners & Helix Audiology, we treat our patients as if they are part of our family. When it comes to doctors offices, many people experience “white coat syndrome” and begin to distrust their providers. We encourage patients to feel comfortable in our offices by wearing casual clothes, no white coats with patients, and we have a therapy dog that is trained to work with people, especially children. We want everyone to feel comfortable walking into our office which we believe is important to having success as a provider. It is important in our field to build rapport with patients so they can put their full trust in us and we can give them the best care regarding their hearing healthcare needs.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing our clientele has been “word of mouth.” Little Listeners has been established for 7 years now in the community and our patients are coming from further and further away. We pride ourselves on patients recommending us to their family and friends. It is the greatest compliment we can receive when we recognize a family that has recommended another family to come see us for help. Helix Audiology is working on also getting established in the community. We volunteer at local assisted living homes in order to offer advice and care to the residents in the communities. It is important for our practices that we leave a lasting impression on everyone we encounter so that we can continue to grow our clientele by “word of mouth.”
