We were lucky to catch up with Megan Biehl recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I am a single mom and I had go back to the work force working as the Early Childhood Director for a local church. Through this job I joined a moms group, this turned into something so important and needed for my life. None of us really knew each other but through this group we shared our trails, hopes, dreams as moms. I had dabbled in event planning when I worked in Hotels prior to becoming a mom. It was something that came very natural to me. With my position at the church my moms group had seen me put together and help with several events from small intimate child dedications to larger Womens Conference events. One of the moms in the group asked me if I had ever done weddings. I hadn’t but had always had a love for the industry and had dipped my toes in a few areas of it. She asked me if I would be will to be her planner. I immediately said yes, I was so excited. She was my first wedding and man did I learn a lot. It was a great learning experience for my first wedding. I think almost anything that could go wrong did over the months of planning with her. From Bridesmaids dropping out to the groom not getting pants in his tux bag to the Mother of the bride who wasn’t invited showing up. Even with these challenges I loved every minute of it. At the end of it the Bride and Groom profusely thanked me for everything and ensuring their day was special. I knew in that moment this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to make sure the couples that hire me enjoy their day, don’t have stress, and truly get to enjoy spending time with the loved ones they invited to spend the day with them.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Megan and I own UnBiehlievable Weddings and Events, a coordinating and planning company. I have worked in the hospitality industry in various positions and companies since I was 16 and I am now 38. From working in retail to hotels to bridal dress shops to name a few. I love the industry, I have always felt you either have a knack for the industry of you don’t; there really isn’t an in-between. I love talking to people and hearing their story; seeing what I can do to help make things easier or better for them. I learned at a young age how to talk to and deal with all kinds of personalities, which for this industry is a huge asset! I am also overly organized and have a huge love for spreadsheets. I have spreadsheets and checklists for everything. I am constantly taking notes and rewriting them to be more organized. I also have both a digital and paper calendar. About 5 yrs ago I found myself being a single mom and needing to get back into the work force after having twin girls. I took a position as an Early Childhood director and through this position I joined a mom group. If you are a mom find a moms group, its something I didn’t realize how much I needed. We talked about everything and one of the things we talked about was our futures. One of the moms one day asked me what I wanted to do, what was my goal. Without hesitation I said I want to do Wedding and Event Planning. After talking about it for a while with family and friends and going in circles about pros and cons. I had a mom from the group ask me if she could hire me to plan her wedding. This was it, the moment I needed. It took off from there. I did her wedding in May of 2022 and by October I had my website up and running. I was booking weddings and still working full time. This past summer I took an opportunity and made the jump to do wedding and event planning full time. I have loved every moment and wouldn’t change my choices at all.
What I offer with my wedding and event planning is day of coordination all the way to full planning to include destination wedding planning. I always make sure to have a thorough conversation with my clients and customized the package to their needs. Whether you just need me to come in and run your day for you or you need a bit more help in the planning process. I realized that there is all kinds of people in the world and I want to make sure when you book with me you are getting exactly what you need for you big day whether it’s a wedding or engagement party or gala. I love trying new styles, designs, and ideas for me it’s like; yes let’s figure out how to make this happen! I want to make sure you get you enjoy your day and don’t have to worry about the little things or bigs things. Let me do that and you live in the moment and enjoy being with your family and friends. I also love to find ways to elevate what my client is wanting. At the end of the day I want to hear your thoughts what you want. It’s not my day it’s yours and I want you to have what you have dreamed and envisioned. I will always make recommendations based on my experiences but at the end of the day I want make what you want happen always.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
For me most of my clients come from Zola, social media, or referrals. I have a few venues and vendors I work closely with as I have done multiple weddings with them.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients a lot via email, text, or phone call. I want them to know I am there for them. Even prior to the start of a contract as some of my clients book me months in advance, I will check in once a month to see if we need to just talk through anything or bounce any ideas around. I am always available for recommendations if they need them. The 4 weeks leading up to the wedding or event day I am in constant communication with my clients ensuring they have all the questions or last minute things answered and they feel confident on their big day.
