We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan Barna a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Megan , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?

I think I have always had an interest in photography. The idea of capturing a moment in time is something that brings me a sense of purpose. So one day I decided to get a professional camera and jump feet first into photography. I started with landscape photography and family members and then eventually it started to become a passion more than just a hobby.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

I am an outgoing, adventurous, Disney loving, family oriented person! Give me iced coffee and I’ll love you forever. My most favorite thing about photographing people is getting to be a small part of their story and capture them where they are at that stage of life in a beautiful visual of time. Being able to photograph a pregnant mama and then the baby and then their birthday milestones it just takes my breath away!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

A lesson I had to learn was sometimes you will fail or the picture won’t turn out like what you thought! So I need to practice, research techniques and not be afraid to expand by knowledge of photography.

I will do what is needed to get you the most authentic shot during the shoot! Whether it’s getting down in the dirt for the shot, doing something silly to get your baby to smile, sacrificing my time longer than the photo shoot I will do It! Because I know how important it is for you and your family.
