We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Megan Allen a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Megan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I think that I first knew I wanted to pursue social media when I was a little kid. I was often spending my time watching Youtube videos, and from a young age made silly little videos of my own. Social Media and content creation was always the main goal, and I feel incredibly blessed that I have not only been able to find personal success, but professional success in this field as well. I have utilized my skills in creating content/social media that I’ve learned throughout the years to get my dream job as a Marketing Manager for a rave wear company. Not only do I have my dream job, but I am still working on completing my marketing degree.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Megan Allen, and I am a lifestyle and fitness influencer in San Diego. Along with running my socials I work at Freedom Rave Wear as a marketing manager. I was a shy kid growing up, and the internet gave me a place to express myself and my thoughts. Over the years I have grown to love creating content, sharing my life with my followers, and spreading positivity in a world that is lacking it alot of the time.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Building my audience on social media took a long time, and finally one day my post got on the explore page and my account blew up overnight. However, I believe that it was the dedication to frequently connecting with my followers that ultimately was the determining factor in my growth. I have always looked at social media as a hobby, and love sharing my interests and passions with the world. The fact I grew my audience by being myself, and sharing what I love will always be special to me.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
When I was at the beginning of college I thought that I wanted fitness to be my career since I loved it so much in my personal life. However, the deeper I got into I realized that this path was not going to keep me happy longterm. During this time I had been putting a lot of time into social media, and it had started to pay off. Being able to reevaluate what I wanted for myself in life, and align my circumstances around where I want to be in life helped immensely. I began to learn more about social media, working with brands, and now I bring a great perspective to my current full time job as a marketing manager for Freedom Rave Wear because I consider the brands point of view as well as the influencers when making decisions. I think that it is always important to adapt in life. If something is not working out for you do not be afraid to change directions. People often get too caught up in the amount of time they’ve spent putting effort into a hobby, career, relationship. However it is important for your own happiness to be able to leave whatever is not serving you anymore. I think that over the years I have been able to recognize what I want out of life and adapt my circumstances to align with those goals.
