We were lucky to catch up with Meg Ten Eyck recently and have shared our conversation below.
Meg, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
My entire career trajectory has been a risk. The story of EveryQueer starts when I decided to leave a lucrative job, the city I love, and move to another country on a whim. I went from New York City, to Seoul, South Korea without knowing anything about Korean culture. I plunged head first into expat life, travel, and eventually building a brand I love. Had I not taken that risk, my life would be radically different today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Through detailed travel content, brand consulting, curated events, and worldwide LGBTQ tours our team teaches queer travelers how to safely see the world.
We build a bridge across identities and borders by curating global LGBTQ+ content featuring LGBTQ+-affirming brands, destinations, and life-changing experiences. Like trusted friends, we share our welcoming and affirming insider tips to inspire wanderlust and ensure our journey is as easy as it is unforgettable.
Our mission at EveryQueer is to inspire people of all sexual orientations, gender identities, and gender presentations to think differently about the global queer community while boldly seeking adventure and connection.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I ran a travel business during a global pandemic that ceased all travel for nearly two years. We lost $300,000 in 5 weeks. I thought it was the end of the road for us. Fortunately, we’d spent nearly a decade building social capital in the industry and were able to pivot into more consulting work during the hardest months of the pandemic. While we’ve always done consulting, it was realizing that diversifying our product offerings and leveraging the skillset of our team in hard times was truly pivotal to our business.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
We have a combined 200,000 followers across platforms and 1.8 million annual readers for our website. The best piece of advice I have to build a social following is to be consistent and thoughtful in what you’re posting. Use a content calendar, embrace new trends, explore new ideas and engage with the four different types of consumers.
