We were lucky to catch up with Meg Sangimino recently and have shared our conversation below.
Meg, appreciate you joining us today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
When I became a certified yoga teacher, I looked around in the industry and saw other yoga teachers teaching at studios. I found that, while I loved teaching at studios, this alone would never allow me to teach yoga full time. I noticed other service providers (massage therapists, reiki practitioners, etc) branching out with different business models and I thought, “Why can’t yoga teachers do that too?”
It became apparent very quickly that there was little to no business support for yoga teachers in the industry. We aren’t taught how to create our own services, build out our own marketing strategies, or have any method for taking on our own clients outside of the studio. With my background in engineering and project management, I put together a team to fill that role in the industry.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I provide sustainably business support for yoga teachers and wellness providers. I started Meg Sangimino Yoga because I found that SO many of my yoga teacher friends were asking me…
“What do I put on my website? How do I get private clients? How did you fill up your workshop?”
And I realized there was a major gap in the wellness industry: Affordable business support.
Now I run programs/courses/workshops to help wellness professionals with their marketing and business strategy to take on more clients, scale their income, and dive into their passions in a more sustainable, fulfilling way.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn this idea that entrepreneurship is glamorous. It can be but, especially at the beginning, it will be one of the hardest, most vulnerable endeavors you take on. I got sucked into some very slimy business coaching programs that promised BIG MONEY super quick and that’s just not he reality. Businesses need solid foundations and time to grow (if you want them to grow sustainably).
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met Allie on social media. We had been internet friends for a few months when I posted that I was looking for someone to come into my programs and talk about mental health and business. Allie, as a yoga teacher and licensed professional counselor, jumped on the opportunity and we have been working together ever since.
