We recently connected with Meezy 53 and have shared our conversation below.
Meezy, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Honestly, I think Hip-Hop is an unappreciated art form. I learned most of what I know from talking with more experienced artists and A&R. Watching a smash being created hits different when you get to see the process and how the artist created such art from nearly nothing. One thing I have learned is everyone has their own path. I wouldn’t change a thing to speed or slow down the process. Yes we all enjoy music but the creative process is an even greater joy and high. one thing I might change is to become a student of the game sooner on in life. The most essential skill to me is understanding the free range you have with a record. Once you understand that you can share shift the track to anything you vision. Having a team of essential individuals sometimes seemed like the biggest obstacle for me and I am still not even complete in that area. For independent artist, I think their team and freedom to work whenever and still have a budget to market yourself may be the biggest obstacles we face.

Meezy , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I go by the name Meezy 53, I am an Hip Hop artist. Music is everywhere in our everyday lives, so of course I gained interest in it an early age. I started making music faithfully about 5 years ago. I used to piece together poems since I was a young kid, so I felt like I should shoot my shot at being an musician. the more music I made the better I became and more thrilled to work on the next beat, with the next producer, with the next artist and shoot the next video, etc. I just became engulfed in the process and enjoy every moment of what I do . My music is my life and it’s a story only I can tell. im most proud of the message in my music as well as the progress I make everyday to own my skill. my brand is who I am, a father, investor and all around hustler. I make music predominantly to motivate the everyday hustle through the everyday struggle. Knowing someone has been through what you have been through sometimes makes the weight lighter to carry, esp knowing they made it through it. Although, I understand everyone will not relate to every song or situation, I want people to get the message and recognize this diamond in the rough.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
The resources and information are endless in today’s society. One thing I do recommend is to READ READ READ. Their is a lot of information in books. A few ones that really were eye openers for me were Rick Ross “Hurricanes”, La Reid “Sing To Me”, 50 cent “Hustle Harder”, Clive Davis “The Soundtrack of My life”, plus many more. Shout out to Wade Burnside of “Hot Producers Only” for putting most of these titles in my face. These all give their story on the challenges they had to face to be the successful people they are today. Not everyone has the same journey but these books share the type of spirit and initiative you must carry to go beyond your peers and take things to new heights. With the right persistence and understanding of what business your in and how to maneuver among it, THE SKY IS THE LIMIT.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are a dope new constructive. now there is enough information out there for me to comfortably enter that space. I fought with making NFT forms of my next two projects. I’ve even met with some people that are very successful in that space to figure out a game plan. maybe some sort of extended copy or special features, but me and my team are still trying to figure out how we want to be introduced into that space. I like NFTs in the music world because they expand the art form for the better. album covers started becoming unappreciated in small boxes on streaming services and with this we can now highlight some of the profound art and artist that make these covers. I have two huge paintings in my house from my first album FREEDOM and the response I get from people when they see it is unwavering. I want to take that creative side and apply it to NFTs as well as the music. I just have to figure it out and when I do hopefully its not too late.
