We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Meesha Gerhart a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Meesha, thanks for joining us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
When I first started my business, I knew that networking and community engagement would be key to getting my first clients. I attended local events and reached out to people in my network to let them know about my services. By being active and visible in my community, I was able to build relationships and establish trust with potential clients. It took some time and effort, but eventually, my hard work paid off and I landed my first clients through these connections. Now, I continue to prioritize networking and community engagement as a way to grow my business and connect with new clients.
Meesha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

However, what truly set RedTree apart was its commitment to authenticity in every collaboration. Meesha believed that a genuine connection with brands was the key to unlocking their true potential. In this realm of trust, brands discovered the transformative power of working hand in hand with an agency.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Starting my own business was one of the most intimidating things I’ve ever done. I had so many doubts and fears running through my head, but I knew deep down that I just needed to do it scared. That became my motto from day one. I realized that if I waited until I felt completely ready or until my nerves settled down, I would never get anything done. So, I took a deep breath and sent out my first proposal, even though I was shaking with nerves. And you know what? It worked! I landed my first client, and it was the boost of confidence I needed to keep going. From that point on, I’ve learned that sometimes you just have to take the leap and trust that you’ll figure it out as you go. It’s scary, but it’s also incredibly rewarding. I’m so glad I didn’t let my fear hold me back.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
In January of 2020, I found myself in a difficult financial situation. Due to unexpected expenses and a lack of planning, I was almost out of money and unsure of how I would make it through the year. Little did I know that the pandemic would hit and make everything even more challenging.
Fortunately, I was able to borrow a significant amount of money from a line of credit and credit cards. It was a humbling experience to have to ask for help, but I am grateful that I had the resources to extend our run way. With that help, I was able to cover payroll and keep expenses paid while I went to find new work.
It was a tough lesson to learn, but it taught me the importance of budgeting and saving for emergencies. I now have a better understanding of how to manage my finances and make sure that I am prepared for whatever challenges come my way. I am thankful for the support I received and the opportunity to learn and grow from this experience.
