We recently connected with Meesh and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Meesh, thanks for joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
8. It was one moment in particular that I discovered Music for myself.
On Christmas Eve. I opened one gift that kept giving because I received a pink cassette player that played tapes too (I’m dating myself) but was the first time I heard “I Wanna Be Down” by Brandy and fell in love with Music.
When I was 7, I started writing a little note to self. By 8, it was poetry because I liked riddles, rhymes, puzzles and figuring out the meaning in my little mind. I loved reading so much and I realized I could make my own story. Also, I’ve always been extremely introverted so as a child, I wouldn’t speak up. But, I had a special relationship with words.
Writing gave me a chance to speak on paper, [to] think out loud. By 9, I wrote my 1st song called “School” which revealedhow introspective I was about my experiences. “ABC’s 123’s” was another song written shortly afterwards with the assistance of my mommy, Sonya. I just knew I loved everything about being able to create.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Wow. I am in love with the process. I am peculiar, a person who’s always felt weirdly misunderstood; until she decided she’d rather experience acceptance of herself, unapologetically. I am uniquely me, ‘gifted’ by a custom designer. I am a Songwriter who can Sing’ as I like to call it. I am a feeler, thinker, learner, and speaker who’s learning to listen. Listening; Having a conversation with herself, others and God in creative ways through Music.
What sets me apart is that I am an audible journal. I’m a sensitive soul who is anxious, yet fearlessly performs “Comfort Zone” in front of a crowd, because she wrote it just to be able to perform in front of a crowd. Lol. I’ve written with and for a few creatives. My goal is to be a Songwriter who creates fusion genres of music that evokes true thoughts•emotions from the many paintbrushes Artists have obtained throughout life.
I am the Artist’s Artist becoming aware of my sensitive superpower of Empathy to feel, deeply. Thinking vastly about life, my mark and my neighbor’s secret desire to maybe become someone, doing something significant to them. I share, I sing, I speak In hopes I’d help someone discover their superpower might be what they deemed a weakness.
I am most proud of my release WWERF or We’re We Ever Really Friends’ Where I explore the realities of friendship/relationship and the coming of age of how navigating through connections can be emotionally liberating.
I am meek, I overthink, I overshare and I do it scared. I am my content right now and forever. I send the paragraph text and give the long hug. I am not afraid that my intentional kindness will be a risk all in the name of Love’s life lessons.
I truly believe we were created and put on this earth to Love & Be Loved. I am loves muse.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
What if you had a dream that took you being fully awake to experience? I can recall dreaming of being on stage as a little girl.
My young parents, when they managed to stop fighting, even attempted to go for it by driving to LA for America’s Got Talent audition. They argued the whole trip. I decided I’d never create this kind of adversity again. But, music chose me.
Shortly after I wrote “New York, New York” paying homage to those families who experienced the 9/11 tragedy, My mom ensured it was played on 103.5 The Bomb radio station. I was 11. Here we are 2 decades later with my first Official Release.
Honestly, I don’t know who suggested me for a Magazine article with Canvas but I am truly grateful. It is NEVER too late as cliche as that sounds. I am beginning- again. I am literally here to tell whoever you are to just Start. Believe me when I say that time is an illusion. The loss, mistake, the pain, the wait = learned lessons of beautiful perseverance. Keep going. Stay at it’- Dev Anglin
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Sharing messages has been fulfilling.
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is having a little boy smile after Feel|Deal|Heal- “No matter what you grow through, just know that you’ll make it through” or A little girl coming up to me and taking my picture after saying I sound like an Angel and she loved my voice.
You know, I remember hearing “your presence is a gift” and that stuck with me. I often felt stuck because I didn’t know how to start.
Presence over perfection is my mission because your authentic expression could be the divine spark someone needed to wake up to themselves. Be well. Talk soon!
