Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Medusa The Body. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Medusa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
When I got into this Industry I had many entertainers who have been in this industry longer than me who helped shape me into a stage worthy entertainer. Anybody can look good in a wig and makeup but learning. how to command a audience is a skill that is 50% Reading how your audience is reacting to your performance and 50% god given talent. Dont let what you see on television fool you this is a huge sisterhood. At any given moment in dressing rooms across the country There are Drag queens helping each other get dressed and giving makeup tips and lifting each other up. At the end of the day the gay community gave us a platform to express are art.

Medusa , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Ive wanted to be a Drag queen since I was 11 years old. I came home from school and turned on the television and Oprah had a Drag queen on her show, With one glance at the television I was captivated. I studied Drag online for years and watched youtube videos of entertainers who I thought highly of. The thought of being on a stage and preforming in front of a audience stayed on my mind constantly. I was 16 the first time I preformed in front of a audience. I wasn’t old enough to even enter the bar. When I got into this industry I lost many friends and some family looking back its for the best I havent lost any sleep over it. people in my community looked at me like i was crazy. Looking back misery loves company and people who have never accomplished anything other than surviving hate to see someone make their dreams come true. My mission from the start was to show everyone that you can make your dreams come true, its not gonna be easy, you will think about quitting but at the end of the day if you really want it you’ll make it happen. Find your niche and fill it. the money and experience will come with time. Nowadays I spend most days working as a Firefighter saving lives in my community and I do a few shows a month. I have a nice ying and yang between both jobs so I dont get burnout.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
the most rewarding aspect of being a artist is knowing you are the commodity that people are buying. if you go to a mall to go shopping your spending your money on physical items, when your a artist people arent getting a physical object they are buying the expirence. People love entertainment because they can leave their problems at the door.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Honestly when I began this journey I thought I was gods gift to Drag when in reality I was nieve and inexperienced. This was a lesson I learned fast and im glad I went through that journey. I learned fast that you have to work hard for your place at this table, Many people came before you and paved the was so you can display your art. Just 30 years ago in some states Doing Drag was illegal and you could be arrested. Thank god the entertainers of that time fought hard to end Masking laws. In the light of recent events around the country we might have to continue the fight to express our art freely. You can be the prettiest entertainer in the business but if you dont respect the process you will fail.
