Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Meda Simpson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Meda, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
I started by offering free photoshoots and focused on building my brand at my small university. I began with low prices and raised them as I gained experience and booked more weddings. In the wedding industry, I followed advice to increase my rates by $300-500 after every 3-5 weddings until reaching my desired rate! I have successfully completed my 3rd wedding season and I have finally reached my ideal clientele.
Meda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a wedding photographer who blends elegant, timeless shots with candid moments. My top priority is capturing every important photo while ensuring the day remains enjoyable for my clients. I strive to be a supportive and calming presence on their wedding day, helping to ease any stress and contribute to a positive atmosphere.
Any resources you can share with us that might be helpful to other creatives?
Culling images in Lightroom used to be a time-consuming task for me. I wish I had discovered Narrative sooner! It’s a helpful software that lets you quickly go through your RAW images, choose the ones you want to edit, and easily import them into Lightroom.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Using IG Reels really boosted my social media following. During weddings, I had my assistant capture behind-the-scenes videos while I took photos. Sharing a mix of iPhone videos and my photos turned out to be the best way to grow on social media. By staying tuned to trends and discovering catchy audio from various reels, I learned to create engaging content.
