Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Meaghan Macdonald. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Meaghan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
My mission is to grow and evolve as an artist, and nails have allowed me to do that. Through practicing my skills and craftsmanship it has given me the opportunity to learn, develop and grow my business.
Meaghan, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was attracted to Nails because of the potential to be creative and I had always been looking for my forever career. I took the Nail Technician course in 2017 and have been doing nails ever since, in 2020 during the pandemic I started doing PressOn nails and taking nail-art classes, this is when I found my passion for the artistic side of nails.
As a nail technician I have a limited amount of in person nail clients, but most of my energy goes into PressOn nails. When I launched my website The Nail Crypt in 2022 it became the passion I was looking for. I provide detailed custom nails with the horror/ Halloween theme being my niche, I love being able to create one of a kind detailed designs that no one else has. I want my art to be looked at not only as a set of nails to wear but as a form of art you can display. I also diversify my talents upon requests of online customers, as I don’t want to limit the art I get to create. I enjoy new customers giving me their design thoughts or giving me creative freedom as well. Every new set lets me improve my artistic ability and I am so proud of myself in how far I have come as an artist and small business owner thus far. I look forward to the future when PressOn nails is my one focus, where I get to create beautiful works of art you can wear on your hands or display with that spooky vibe.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I built a website for my business The Nail Crypt with no knowledge of website design. The months and hours of struggling with designing exactly what I wanted was a test to how bad I wanted it. I wanted to make it the most user friendly so that anyone can understand how to order a set of PressOn nails. I am lucky to have friends and family like my sister being a teacher to review my website, make suggestions and even purchase my first sets of nails. I am always working on improving my website as I move forward in my business and learn new things as time goes on.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
As of 2023 I started attending markets as a vendor within my city which has grown my sales and got my name and brand recognized as a small business owner. I also attended a horror convention as a vendor in a major city which was not only great for new clients but was my niche market. Through the attendance of these markets I have seen my business grow as well as my social skills, being an introvert I have always struggled with that. In starting The Nail Crypt not only have I built a business from the ground up but I have also learned new life skills. I also use social media platforms to get my name out there on a boarder scale.
