Meagan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Kindness. We get so busy and live in an inundated world that we often forget to be kind to others. I believe that by stopping and acknowledging others, talking to strangers, holding a door helps you remember who and what your business serves. It’s kindness to others that keeps you in touch with your consumers.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I hand make tallow based skincare sourced from local, small farms. I believe in supporting local businesses. My skincare has been known to help with all kinds of skin issues from the top of your head to the tips of your toes, for all ages. But initially, my passion was to help mothers. I wanted to simplify their products and help simplify their lives. I love supporting moms in all seasons of life and especially other mom owned businesses.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Show up. Be authentic. Stay weird. Your people will always find you. Mess up. Post silliness and outtakes. Don’t take yourself too seriously. Have fun with it. Share the raw parts, people need to know that you are not perfectly curated, but rather perfectly imperfect.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I initially believed that “if you build it, they will come”. Nope, not even close. If you build it, you have to keep building it, nurturing it, caring for it, etc. I have learned the hard way that you have to constantly be morphing with trends and times and listening to your customer base is helpful. Also, write down your “why I started my business” and continually refer back to that during the good times and the tough.
