We recently connected with Meagan Getz and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Meagan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
I actually discovered my love of branding and website design by accident as I was participating in a mastermind program for my wedding photography business. Learning the strategy behind brand design absolutely fascinated me, and when I applied that to my own business and saw the growth from that, I knew I wanted to help other photographers experience that too. I’ve always struggled with my confidence and that carried right over to my business, but having an effective brand gave me more confidence than I ever thought possible.
I took a website design class when I was in high school because I knew I wanted to design a website for my own photography business someday, but I had no idea at the time that I’d ever be doing it professionally! I’ve definitely always had an interest in it, but when I learned all about the strategies behind effective brand and website design, it really ignited a spark and made me want to dive deeper into it. That’s how Luxelle Studio came about, and I absolutely love what I do.
Meagan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I create confidence-boosting brands and websites for photographers by highlighting their strengths so that they’re able to attract their dream clients. I wholeheartedly believe that, since photographers are at the forefront of their businesses, it’s essential to have a brand that shows off their personality and strengths. Not only that, but this needs to be done strategically, in a way that makes it clear to their potential clients how working with that specific photographer will benefit them. Getting to know my clients is essential to this process, so when they work with me, I make an effort to learn more about who they are, some of their beliefs about life and photography, and what they value. We discuss their goals for their business and what they want their brand and website to help them accomplish.
One of the biggest struggles I’ve seen among photographers, especially within the first couple years of business, is feeling like they blend in with other local photographers and they’re not sure how to stand out. That’s why I make sure that, when they work with me, photographers become well aware of their strengths and we’re showing them off with a strategic brand and website. The confidence boost from that is priceless, and it helps them stand out for all the right reasons.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Honestly, being able to use my creativity in a way that benefits people. I’ve always loved artistry and creativity, from being obsessed with drawing when I was little, playing multiple musical instruments through the years, falling in love with photography and finally discovering branding and website design. The really incredible part of what I do now is that I get to help other photographers grow their businesses all while having a creative outlet. And honestly, I really adore being able to merge strategy with visual branding. I’m a smidge obsessed with psychology so that makes brand and website design even more enthralling for me, because it really comes into play with what I do.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A big part of why I started this business was so that I can spend more time volunteering in my community, even taking off potentially a month or two at a time for special projects. Being a wedding photographer has given me a lot of freedom and I’m so grateful for that, but it’s also very seasonal and much of my volunteer work takes place on the weekends when weddings happen. So part of the reason I started Luxelle Studio was because I wanted a different schedule. But also, I get so much joy from being able to make a difference in photographers’ businesses and lives and I wanted to make strategic brand and website design accessible to as many photographers as possible. Because of this, I’ve been designing free resources as well as lower-cost website templates. I struggled with my brand so much when I began my wedding photography business, and it caused me so much stress. I wholeheartedly believe that no photographer should have to feel that way- running a business is hard enough without that extra stress. I want every photographer, no matter where they are in their business journey, to be able to feel confident in their brand and website.
