We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Meagan Collins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Meagan below.
Meagan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
Before I started my career as a private chef, I would post pictures and videos of the food I created on social media for fun. But once I became a full time chef, it became challenging to post content since my focus was on delivering delicious food to my clients. I also lacked the self confidence in myself to take my creative content to the next level. Looking back I wish I would have found the balance for both. But I’m a firm believer in everything happens for a reason. My journey has molded me into who I am today which is someone who is confident and more creative than I was back then. So I wouldn’t change anything about my journey because I knew deep down inside I would arrive to this destination. It was all about divine timing, not my timing. And I’m forever grateful for my experiences.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Before becoming a food content creator on YouTube and social media, I began my entrepreneurship journey in 2015 as a private chef. As a private chef, I specialized in healthy meal preps and natural juices. I customized my client’s meal plans based off their health goals, allergen restrictions, and taste preferences. Becoming a health-conscious chef allowed me to explore different methods of cooking especially with exotic fruits and vegetables. It also allowed me to become more educated about health conditions, diseases, and allergens. It’s a very rewarding role and I loved everything about it.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Having the creative control to express myself on my terms. My food content is my artwork and I love sharing it with the world. As a private chef, you are somewhat limited on how to create food due to your client’s preferences. But when I create for me, I have the freedom to do as I please. So freedom is definitely the reward.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
I believe society can best support creatives or artists by liking, commenting, and sharing their work on all social media platforms. It cost $0 to like, comment, share, or subscribe to a creator’’s artwork. By supporting, you’re helping the artist or creator’s work to be more visible to the public while also putting income in their pocket. Creating content isn’t free nor is it a hobby. It is our livelihood that takes a lot of hard work, consistency, and money to produce. Visibility and income is everything to us so please show us some love. The more love you show, the more love you shall receive in return.
