We recently connected with McKenzie Parks and have shared our conversation below.
McKenzie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
My recent mini collection, “Release”, is such a meaningful project to me. This project is all about the alchemy of the process of returning to oneself. Each piece conveys a moment along the journey of releasing pent up emotions, grief, limiting beliefs, masks, and stories of victimhood. By allowing ourselves to experience these things fully, instead of stuffing them down inside of us, we reclaim a part of our true self. Life becomes lighter and we get to experience the magical alchemy of healing. This alchemy is represented by the 3D metallic sculptural elements of each piece. I hope that others feel inherently seen, when they view this collection and that it inspires them to let go and LIVE!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am an Atlanta based, female Artist. After graduating with a BFA in Interior Design from Savannah College of Art and Design, I went on to explore makeup artistry, production, as well as Artist Management. As of now, my work is mostly painting, but I will follow a concept into whatever medium it leads me. I also am always open to mural projects and brand collaborations when they fit my work as well.
My goal is to visually explore the mystical moments in life where the spiritual and human experience meet. These visuals and concepts often come to me in downloads while meditating, sitting outside in nature, or drifting off to sleep. The stillness is important to receive, in my opinion. My intent is for my work to reach the people who need it most and to help open a door into the minds of others of just how much more is out there in this big beautiful universe.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a mission to live and express authentically who I was born to be, instead of who capitalism told me to be over the course of my life and to lead others to the light and wonder of the universe. There is beauty, and alchemy in even your most painful and profound moments; my artistic practice allows me to transmute those into something that lifts me up and hopefully encourages others to see the beauty in their story as well.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an Artist is getting to access flow-state. This energetic state is the most time-warping, most exhilarating yet peaceful, and most addictive thing you can experience in my opinion. To be able to access this makes you feel like you are suspended in conversation with something greater than you and I will never have enough of it. Which is perfect, since I plan on this being my life’s work haha.
