We caught up with the brilliant and insightful McKenna Sosa a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
McKenna, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I had always been artistic when I was growing up. I had won a few first place spots for my art in some middle school competitions. I also just loved to draw which I had begun taking more seriously when I was about 20. I am 23 now and was volunteering at a local food bank showing off some previous art I had done. When I met this sweetheart named Bill, he was pleasantly impressed and encouraged me to take my art into galleries asking for consignment. And so we did, to my surprise the 5th gallery we asked wanted me in their gallery! I am now showing some pieces and more to come at the 55 Main Gallery in Bisbee, AZ. Thank you so much Christina.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a strong, driven, resilient and creative person. I began modeling when I was 17 when I approached in the mall by a photographer. I began consistently worked with her for a while and have since continued my modeling journey. As of right now I provide print, runway and acting services. Additionally, I provide art services such as oil, acrylic or mixed media art. What makes me different from others is the way I provide for my clients with precision and understanding of their vision whether that be modeling or with my art. For future clients I hope that if given the opportunity you will allow me to be your vision to life.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think a wonder as far as my journey that I have been questioned about would be how have I kept going. I think it’s important to figure out what you want and then figure out how to get it. And to not be afraid of failing or rejection. Failure is a requirement for success. Obstacles will always be present. Life will happen. However, having the confidence to fail has been what has made me feel the most successful and in turn, has given me in my own way; my success.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creativity, whether I’m collaborating with another person or creating my art I am seeking to feel that independence, proudness and expression of our ideas in our head or mine on my own. I look forward to being spiritually, physically and financially independent with creative talents I have.
