We were lucky to catch up with McKenna Penrod recently and have shared our conversation below.
McKenna , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
My business name GeorgiaLynn Photography is named after my daughter. I chose to name after her because I decided to take a leap on starting photography business because I took so many photos of her growing up and enjoyed it and wanted to be able to capture photos for others and the memories that go along with them. I also named after her for the reason maybe one day she’d like to take over or be apart of the photography business with me if she would like. At the end of the day I just hope she knows even though I am a full time stay at home mom you can also have a hobby turn into so much more when you put your heart and mind into it.
McKenna , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
GeorgiaLynn Photography is a business that I hope people see my work and first think that I have captured a memory for someone to keep forever. I love being able to provide photos that people love. My business really just started out as me taking pictures of my children and them growing up and one day just realizing I should start doing it for others and then it just boomed for me. I feel so blessed for the returning clients and the new. I always want to make people enjoy getting there photos taken and loving the result. I am all about being affordable to which is why I do offer many options of photo sessions for prices that fit people’s needs.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
One thing I learned in the beginning is being a photographer doesn’t necessarily mean you have the most expensive camera. I started off with a small camera worth a few hundred dollars and it is the one that made my whole business start. It takes more than just an expensive camera to create great pictures and people wanting to come back. My best advice is be yourself and kind to others and do what you feel is right when pursuing your career even when you don’t have the best things to start off.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective way I have found building my clientele and having people come back to me for photos is reaching out if I have a special or just becoming their friend. People are drawn in when they know you care about them as a person. I also post a lot on social media which draws in a lot of people also!
