We recently connected with MC Rozay and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, MC thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One deeply underappreciated facet of being a service provider is the kind of crazy stuff that happens from time to time. It could be anything from a disgruntled client attacking an employee or waking up to find out a celebrity gave you a shoutout on TikTok – the sudden, unexpected hits (both positive and negative) make the profession both exhilarating and exhausting. Can you share one of your craziest stories?
In the spring of 2023 I was hired to emcee a wedding in the metro Detroit Area (Farmington Hills). The couple was instrgued by my work, professionalism, and my style didn’t hurt of course. Farmington Hills is an affluent area so I expected all the works for this high end wedding. I prepared meticulously as to what my opening would be amongst this Nigerian and American crowd. What could I do to ensure that this was a once in a lifetime experience for everyone? As I worked the crowd on wedding day from my greetings at the wedding ceremony, to my boisterous introduction of the wedding party, and ultimately leading the guests on the dance floor, one particular moment stood out to me. A gentleman approached me and paid the ultimate compliment. He let me know that he had made a wager with his wife that I was most certainly a Hollywood act. That felt incredible in the moment because he was so sure of it because of my work that night. It’s also a testament to the gift that I’m sure of and the goal I’m striving to reach.

MC, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a Master of Ceremonies which is usually described as someone who announces speakers, players, or entertainers, but I’m much more than that. I’m the pulse of events, creating a warm atmosphere that exudes joy. About 30 hours away from my friend’s wedding in August of 2020, he and his then fiance called me to let me know that their hired emcee had contracted COVID-19 and couldn’t make the wedding. They were requesting that I step into the role due to a reference from a mutual friend. Now I had emcee’d one wedding prior to that so I was a bit nervous but carried on. Within minutes of the wedding reception, I received a text from my friend at the time who was in attendance that read “You’re really good at this, you should take it seriously.” That was one of the confirmations I needed at the time in my pursuit of finding my life’s work.
1. I offer MC/Event hosting services for galas, weddings, corporate events, holiday parties, red carpets, and TV networks.
2. My event planning and communication skills sets me apart from others. Having a corporate background and growing up in the inner city has exposed me to folks from various backgrounds which allows me to understand new people fairly quickly and well. I’ve assisted in planning countless events with my clients by providing them a soft template for their event type and then offering suggestions around the logistics of their event.
3. My personal style is unique which often draws attention from the audience. As the face and voice of the event, it’s imperative to always look your best and I’m always up for the challenge.
4. I want my potential clients/followers/fans to know that this isn’t a hobby or passion for me, this is my purpose.
5. My brand isn’t for everyone as luxury and custom items aren’t for everybody either. This is a high-end service.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for building clientele has been videos on instagram where I’m talking to my audience and providing inspiration of some sort. I find that they’re a lot more likely to engage with this type of promotional material rather than recaps of my events.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The main piece of advice for those just starting to to build their social media presence is to establish great the quality (pictures/videos) and be consistent. Establish social media goals such as the # of times you want to post per month and for the year. Brainstorm content ideas around your business and shoot them to educate your audience.
