We recently connected with Mazi Visualz and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mazi, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
In June 2025, I chose to take accountability for my past by turning myself in to authorities for several outstanding warrants. During that time, I made a personal commitment to transform my life and focus on something positive. With a background as a DJ, I decided to take a creative risk and start a videography career — using only my iPhone 15 Pro Max to film.
I dedicated myself to learning from other videographers and improving with every project. That decision quickly opened new doors. Since taking that leap, I’ve been consistently working with South Carolina’s rising artist, Trap Dickey, after my brother, DJ Montana Ali, invited me to join him on the road to capture footage and build my resume.
Within three months, my persistence paid off — I upgraded to a professional Sony camera and developed a growing body of work that reflects both artistic progress and personal growth. This experience has taught me that real change starts with accountability, faith, and the courage to take a chance on yourself

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
James Israel, known professionally as Mazi Visualz, is a Florence, South Carolina native who began his journey in entertainment as DJ J Blacc. After several successful years as a DJ, he transitioned into videography in July 2025, inspired by directors and creators he admired. Under his new brand, Mazi Visualz, James focuses on delivering high-quality visuals that help artists and businesses elevate their image and connect with audiences in impactful ways.
He’s most proud of his work alongside his brother, DJ Montana Ali, and their collaborations with rising South Carolina artist Trap Dickey. His camera has also captured moments with major artists including Boosie, Moneybagg Yo, Big Boogie, Fat Trel, and Lil Ru.
Mazi’s ultimate goal is to make videography his full-time career, traveling the world with artists and creators to showcase unique, behind-the-scenes perspectives of the entertainment world.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
One of the most effective strategies for growing my clientele has been using the connections I built as a DJ. That background gave me access to artists, promoters, and event organizers who already trusted my work ethic and creativity. Once I transitioned into videography, word of mouth spread fast because people had already seen the consistency I brought to the table. I also stay active on social media, posting behind-the-scenes clips, performance highlights, and short recaps that showcase my style and quality. That combination of networking, consistency, and visual storytelling has been key to growing my brand and attracting new clients.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my reputation was built on consistency, professionalism, and genuine relationships. Coming from the DJ world, I was already known for bringing energy, reliability, and a strong work ethic to every event. When I transitioned into videography, I applied those same principles — delivering quality visuals on time and always giving my best effort, no matter the size of the project. I focus on capturing moments that tell a story and make people feel something, not just filming for the sake of content. Over time, that dedication and attention to detail helped my name travel through word of mouth and the results people saw in my work.
