Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mayra Joli. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mayra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents together and individually gave the same opportunities to my sisters and me. They provided food, shelter, and religious-based education. They also let us know on no uncertain terms that we had the same opportunities but that the outcome and the advantage we take of the opportunities given are all up to each one of us. We all became successful mothers, wives, professionals, and upright citizens. My father’s principle? “courage against fear.” My mother’s motto? “I was not born for seed.” It took me many years to understand, but I applied what they did right. They were never afraid. They never play the victim. They always give it the go. They found inspiration against adversity from within, not from the outside. They count as their best role model, the best version of themselves. My mother always says a successful day starts with personal hygiene. For my parents, doing the right thing was our job, and there were no extra incentives for doing the right thing. There was no “pep talk.” We knew we were a family, and we all pulled together to better each one of us. There were no special thanks to anyone. There was no special treatment. We did not need to hear we were special every week. We knew that was the case. We were alive and well! We were never depressed because we were never bored! My mother would not go for that! According to her, there is always some chore to do in a home! To this day, She is right!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Yes, I ran for congress in 2018; I ran for commissioner and mayor in 2022. I learn to depend on myself. I learned to hold on to my principles, and not even if bombarded, I would not abandon them. I realized that corruption only destroys those who have a predisposition to cheat. I learned that no matter how tempting the offer could be to sell one’s principles, there is no softer pillow than a clear conscious!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My firmly held belief and opinion helped me build my reputation. People see thru my folkloric and entertaining personality that they could always count on me telling the truth to the best of my abilities. My impeccably polished and realistic image has been a powerful asset.
