We recently connected with Maya White and have shared our conversation below.
Maya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
For many years I did not think that I would experience the joy and freedom of being my own boss. I have always been a self- motivated person, however, finding my true career calling was one of the greatest stressors of my life.
I knew at age 14 that I loved astrology, and that I had a natural talent in this field. However, as I moved through many years of unrewarding work, I didn’t even view being an astrologer as a viable career choice. I tried my hand at almost everything, from sales to giving private music lessons, but there was always a higher calling. It took me getting fired from a job that I hated anyway to finally surrender to the joy of doing astrology professionally. And, once I surrendered, the doors of the Universe opened wide for me. I have never looked back.
On some level, I began my business as a professional astrologer at the perfect time in my life, but, I I would have been much happier had I just followed my true calling and talents and declared my life’s work much sooner. This is something that I counsel many clients on even today; helping them connect income with their true self expression.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am one of only 100 people in the world certified in a specialized branch of astrology called AstroCartoGraphy, and I help people find their best places on the earth to live or travel to. What I love about AstroCartoGraphy is that it combines astrology with my love of travel and learning about other cultures.
AstroCartoGraphy has helped me in the most deeply transformational ways possible. It gave me explanations and understanding about issues in my own life that nothing else could. So, in 1998, when I had a chance to become trained and certified by the person who created it, I eagerly took the chance.
Astrology is a multi faceted art and science. And, to be good at AstroCartoGraphy, one must first excel as a basic astrologer. The scientific part of astrology is based on astronomical observation; measuring the movement of the planets and other celestial bodies. However, it is the artistry of interpretation that I find most fascinating. Just like peeling layers of an onion, astrology is a multi-faceted jewel that assists humans in self understanding as well as prediction of both past and future events.
Next, comes the counseling aspect of astrology. A proficient astrologer is someone who can make his or her client feel at ease and safe enough to share their deepest emotions. This understanding of self, and one’s place in the world, benefits both individuals and makes for a healthy society.
Ultimately, what I help my clients do is find not only their best places to live and travel to, but also help them to feel at home in their bodies. Having grown up in Boulder, Colorado in the 1960’s, I have a background in Tibetan culture as well as an appreciation for all spiritual beliefs.
And, as a part of my brand, I bring this wisdom to my clients. Aside from my unique training, perspective, and experience in AstroCartoGraphy, what I align with most as an astrologer is having a heart of service, and respect.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
Creating and maintaining a connection with people has kept me in business as a full time astrologer since 1999. With the exception of two months, I have written each of the 12 Sun Signs an all original monthly horoscope for 24 years now. That’s a long time! The horoscopes have been a love offering to my clients, and also a great draw to get traffic to my web site.
Even better for my business than the horoscopes has been my weekly newsletter. Honestly, the newsletter has been my bread and butter through times of feast and famine. I aspire to send it weekly, but there have been times when that didn’t happen.
What has been consistent is that everything I write, whether it’s a horoscope, a social media post, or a weekly newsletter – everything that has my name on it, is original and has been created with my utmost care and sincerity. This has caused me to burn the midnight oil many, many times, staying up all night to give my readers and clients truly authentic material.
Clearly, maintaining contact with my ‘peeps’ has kept me in the game for the long haul.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source of new clients has always been referrals from satisfied exiting clients. I show up for every reading well prepared, in the correct state of mind, and ready to give my all. No exceptions!
In addition to staying in touch with my established clients, I know that every business thrives on serving new clients and creating meaningful relationships. This is an area where I wish to express appreciation and gratitude to my peers, friends, and satisfied clients who have sent me referrals.
There have definitely been times when the going was tough, either because of my personal life situation, or circumstances out of my control, such as when the US economy crashed in 2008, and when my son passed away in 2021. And, it was the generosity of people sending referrals my way that kept me going trough these trying times.
