Maya, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

“ When you look good, you feel good “! No matter the age or gender, everyone wants to look good. My grandmother once told me your crown is your beauty. Grow your hair long,thick, and healthy like the queen you are. Thats why I always tell my clients to take care of their hair because its a crown they can never take off.

Maya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Maya Riley formally known as MAYATHESTYLISTLLC. I was born in the sunny sunshine state, Orlando, Florida in 1995. I was raised by my mother and grandmother who not only made me the woman I am today but guided me to trust in the lord and his mission he had for me. When i was 14 years old, I taught myself on how to do box braids and hair extensions. Learning how to do my own hair saved my mom alot of money when needed. When i enter high school, all my friends and family wanted me to do their hair because i was good at it. Fast forward to college, I graduated with my associate degree and made a choice to be a hairstylist instead of a nurse. In 2020 I graduated with my cosmetology license and never look back ever since. I tell myself everyday, If i can make people look good they will feel good and thats a motto I live by til this day. Now here we are in 2023, I am a Entrepreneur, Licensed cosmetologist, and a Salon owner in Altamonte Springs, Florida. I specialize in natural hair care such as treating split ends, breakage, extreme dandruff, and heat damage. I also offer other services such as ponytails, sew ins, quickweaves, haircoloring, and silkpresses. My clients absolutely love my salon because all my services includes detangle, olaplex or design essential shampoo, conditioner, blow dry, trim and styling. My clients always tell me, how they can see that i love my job because I make sure I educate them about their hair, recommend great products, take my time with their hair and most importantly make sure they look good. I am proud of myself because i took a leap of faith and follow a ideal that turn into reality and changed my life forever. I want to tell any one out their no matter how big, crazy and unorthodox your ideal might be, believe in yourself because its a mission that wasn’t meant for someone else to follow the path was directly given to you!

How did you build your audience on social media?

The way i built my audience on social media was first deciding on a niche. Yes! I knew how to do every service in the books but specializing in one to three service gave a outlook to my clients of what my business was about and what was my main focus. Once i realized my niche was silkpresses and natural hair care, the clients start rolling in. I had clients who suffered from alopecia to psoriasis and even travel to come see me. The advice I will give to people is to find a niche to build your audience who will eventually become your clientele.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?

The most effective strategy for growing clienteles is by using hashtags and making all social media bio short and simple. For example, since my hair salon is reside in altamonte Springs Florida, majority of my hashtags will say altamonte hairstylist or surrounding areas such as Orlando hairstylist. Another strategy to grow your clientele is by creating a bio that is short and simple. You want to let people know where you are located and what do you do. Once they can visually see that information, your page can be shared and reposted for more people to see.
