We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maya Kaspi. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maya below.
Maya, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I think what’s unique about my vision for the Blueprint Stan Experience is that it wasn’t an idea that came overnight. The idea started when I had no idea I even wanted to start a business. I believe my first idea for my business came to me when I was around 18 years old and I ended up with two extra tickets for a concert. I decided I wanted to give the tickets away instead of trying to sell them. The reactions from the fans that day was a moment I knew in that moment that I wanted to be able to create special memories for fans as much as possible I just didn’t know how to. I started working a dream music industry job and I realized something was still missing. It was my desire to focus solely on creating magic for fans and that’s how the idea for my business was formed. I love the magic of fandom more than anything and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.
Maya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I discovered my love of being a music fan when I was 13 and first saw Justin Bieber on my TV. From there I discovered a world of concerts and fandom that I instantly fell in love with. At first I didn’t realize you could build a career out of loving concerts and I thought it was just a hobby. I eventually built my life out of going to shows and got my first music industry job at a digital marketing agency because of it.
I now focus on the fan experience and different ways that I can help improve it. I have launched an app that is focused on helping connect fans with other fans and I am working on volume 2. I am in the process of launching a thrifted merch project focusing on getting second hand and thrifted merch into the hands of actual fans for a low cost. I also work on making sure fans get information for show and tips to have the safest and most enjoyable concert experience possible.
There is so much more that I want to do for fans and as we continue to grow I will keep looking at specific problems within fandom and working on ways to solve them. I want people to know that everything we do is for fans because we love being a fan.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Well we are definitely still small on social media and working to grow our accounts but knowing your target market is key. We have collated with accounts with similar demographics, we target specific fanbases with ticket and merch giveaways and we work to create content that we know people will relate to. The nice thing for us is I am the target demographic so I tent to focus on content that I will connect with and enjoy.
In terms of advice for those just started I would say try to think outside of the box. What is going to get people to do a double take and re-read your post. Does it make someone ask questions? Are you tapping into current trends? Is it relatable?
Have you ever had to pivot?
Something you learn while starting a business is that you are going to change your mind, a lot. I find that one of the hardest things with having full control is you also have the freedom to go in any direction you want but that also means sometimes you are going to pick the wrong one or you are going to try to do too many things all at once. I have had so many ideas that I have realized either don’t make sense for my business yet, or maybe never will. Although the goals of Blueprint have stayed the same, the path to achieve those have consistently changed. For instance I pictured myself wanting to build a roster of artists to work with. I now realize with the exception of a few that I do not want Blueprint to focus on the artist and I want to solely focus on the fan.
