We recently connected with Maya Kadan and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Maya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Alright, so we’d love to hear about how you got your first client or customer. What’s the story?
I got my first client through word of mouth. My mother’s coworker had hired me to make some bracelets for her, when I was 10 years old.
Some family members have bought from me a few years after I had made some jewelry for them. It was very special, because they trusted me & I designed that they loved. It was fun bringing that designs to life.
However, reevaluating and getting good at presentation, breaking out of my shell, and saying hello to people helped resonate with folks to possibly buy or at least say hello back. I think it shows my resilience because I never stopped trying. I’ve done so many successful events since May and I’ve even done live streams and use that to connect to people over the internet as well.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I started making bracelets when I was three but I didn’t sell them until I was 10 thanks to the encouragement of my mother’s coworker. She loved the designs that I came up with and encouraged me to pursue it as a business.
I think what sets me apart is the care that I put into each item. Also the fact that I take custom request. I’m most proud of my work ethic and my design process. I love playing around with different designs and seeing what I like. Luckily, other people like them as well.
What I want people to know about me is I love what I do & I love seeing people enjoy my creations.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Going out and meeting people. It’s different when you see items on a screen versus in person. Connecting with people really help me as I’ve gotten some offers from different vendor markets as well as conventions through word of mouth. Also connecting with people, exchanging business cards, greetings, and words of encouragement really help.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My first event under this name didn’t go very well, I sold nothing.
However, reevaluating and getting good at presentation, breaking out of my shell saying hello to people helped resonate with folks to possibly buy or at least say hello back. I think it shows my resilience because I never stopped trying. I’ve done so many successful events since May and I’ve even done live streams and use that to connect to people over the internet as well.
