We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maya Davis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maya below.
Maya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
We are seeing a lot of Tiktok’s, Reels, and Mukbang’s where people are trying food from all parts of their state and encouraging others to try it. The cool thing about trends like these are the fact that everyone adds their own personality to the content. People could be posting the same restaurant but their approach may be totally different.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Maya Davis. I go by the handle littlegirlbigeats. I chose this name because I’m petite but I’m always eating and eating out. Prior to doing food content, I always took pictures of my food and people would constantly ask me for food recommendations in the area. One day, coincidentally, three people asked me for food recommendations. They really were the catalyst and encouragement I needed to follow through with this food page.
I am most proud of my ability to bring people together over food. I believe that there are so many connections to food, community and culture.
I believe what sets me apart from others is I do this because I truly enjoy sharing experiences with others. I feel so rewarded when people take a recommendation whether it’s a date night, girls night, or guys night out and let me know how much they enjoyed it.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I am still working on building my audience. My biggest advice is to be yourself. It’s easy to get caught up in seeing someone else’s success because they’re doing their content a specific way. Be yourself and the content will be authentic. Remain confident in your work. Whether you get 1 like or 1000, at least you know you’re helping others.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I’m still working on this but the most effective strategy is remaining consistent. Content is hard and some days you may feel embarrassed or scared to post. The more people see your content, the more they engage.
