We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maya Bosnjak a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Maya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. In our experience, overnight success is usually the result of years of hard work laying the foundation for success, but unfortunately, it’s exactly this part of the story that most of the media ignores. So, we’d appreciate if you could open up about your growth story and the nitty, gritty details that went into scaling up.
From day one, I approached this business with a clear plan. I’m someone who thrives on structure — I have a background in engineering, business, and marketing — and before I even launched, I created a five-year plan and made it my mission to understand the industry from the inside out.
That’s why I chose to work for another event company (for short period of time) first. I learned a lot — especially about how not to run a business. :)
That experience saved us years of potential mistakes and gave me a major head start. Combined with my earlier experience in hospitality, I was already used to high-pressure environments and managing many moving parts — so the stress didn’t scare me. I knew the reward would be worth it.
I’ve always been deeply business-minded, but I’m also in love with art, people, and the feeling of bringing joy to others. Over time, this business became the perfect marriage of both. We’ve had the honor of being part of some of the most important moments in people’s lives — always present, but never overpowering.
Today, our work can be seen all over Washington, DC area. We’ve worked with high-profile clients, celebrities, and even the White House, but we bring the same energy and care to every project, big or small. Every time we drive through the city and see our team’s work on display, I feel incredibly proud — not just of what we’ve built, but how we built it.
It’s important for me to say this: this is not a one-woman show. Our success is only possible because of an incredible team that shows up every day with talent, integrity, and dedication. We also have strong vendor relationships and a network of people who trust our work — that trust has been essential to our growth.
Clients often tell me they can feel how much we care — and I believe that’s been key to our success. When you love what you do, know how to do it well, and give it your whole heart, it shows. Respecting your clients, being consistent, and working hard — those aren’t just business values; they’re human values.
Of course, burnout is real. I’ve had to learn how to protect my energy — through yoga, travel, and, maybe most importantly, learning how to say no. Boundaries have been one of the hardest, but most valuable lessons along the way. I am still working on it,
Scaling this business hasn’t been easy, but it’s been deeply fulfilling. And if there’s one thing I’d tell others in the messy middle, it’s this: have a plan, but stay flexible. Lead with your head, but don’t forget your heart. That combination will take you far.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m someone who thrives at the intersection of structure and creativity. With a background in engineering and formal education in business and marketing, I could’ve taken a traditional corporate path — but I’ve always been drawn to building things that connect people and leave a lasting impression. That’s what led me to the event world, where I’ve found the perfect blend of beauty, business, and human emotion.
Our company specializes in floral design, weddings, corporate events, and permanent floral installations. We’re based in Washington, DC, and our work ranges from intimate private celebrations to large-scale brand experiences. We also create high-end floral installations for restaurants, hotels, and public spaces — pieces that live beyond a single day and become part of a space’s identity. You can see our work in many well-known spots around the city, and we’re incredibly proud of that.
At our core, we’re experience creators. Yes, we design florals and plan logistics — but what we really provide is a sense of calm, clarity, and celebration. Our clients often come to us feeling overwhelmed or unsure of how to bring their vision to life. Our job is to take that stress off their shoulders and turn ideas into something cohesive, elegant, and emotionally resonant.
What sets us apart is our balance of creative vision and professional execution. We know how to design stunning florals, craft beautiful experiences, and manage complex events — but we also know how to listen. We make sure every element reflects the client’s unique personality or brand, whether we’re designing a wedding arch, a stage backdrop, or a floral installation that transforms an entire restaurant.
I’m most proud of the trust we’ve earned — not just from individual clients, but from institutions, vendors, and partners who value the way we show up: with excellence, authenticity, and heart. We’ve worked with celebrities, corporate leaders, but we bring the same energy and care to every project, big or small.
For anyone discovering our work for the first time: what I want you to know is this — we’re not just about making things look beautiful. We’re about making people feel supported, inspired, and celebrated. Every project we take on is done with intention, passion, and a deep respect for the people behind it.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding part of being a creative is seeing how something that starts as a vision in my mind can become a real, tangible experience that moves people. There’s something incredibly fulfilling about watching someone walk into a space we’ve designed — whether it’s a wedding, a corporate event, or a restaurant installation — and seeing their face light up. That moment of emotion is everything.
As much as I love the design process — choosing colors, textures, shapes, and structure — it’s really about how it all comes together to tell a story. Every event we create at Bee Inspired Events is personal. We’re often part of some of the most important moments in people’s lives: weddings, launches, milestones. To be trusted with that is not something I take lightly.
I also find so much joy in working with my hands — creating florals that feel alive, that add movement and softness to a space. Flowers are temporary, but the feeling they create is lasting. I love that contrast — the beauty of the moment, and the memory it becomes.
At the end of the day, what I find most rewarding is that our work makes people feel something. It brings joy, beauty, and meaning into their lives — and that, to me, is the greatest gift of being a creative.
As you can tell feelings mean a lot to me :).

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Definitely. When I started, I wish there had been more open, supportive communities where creatives truly shared their knowledge. Back then, a lot of designers kept their process and ideas very private, which made the learning curve much steeper. That is definitely changing now and our community is doing so much better when it comes to helping and sharing knowledge with each other.
That’s why I now love helping new designers — whether it’s walking them through a project, giving feedback, or just being someone they can talk to. I know how hard it can be to figure it all out alone, and I want to be the resource I wish I had when I was starting.
I also wish I’d learned earlier how important it is to protect your energy, set boundaries, and prioritize your mental health. Creativity flows so much better when you’re not constantly overwhelmed — and that’s something I try to pass along, too.
