Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maya Agasi. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Maya thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Have you been able to earn a full-time living from your creative work? If so, can you walk us through your journey and how you made it happen? Was it like that from day one? If not, what were some of the major steps and milestones and do you think you could have sped up the process somehow knowing what you know now?
I believe one of the sentences that often accompanies a dancer at the beginning of their career is, ‘So what else do you do besides dance? How do you make a living?’ Generally, society’s perception and norms relegate dance to merely a hobby. However, dance, like medicine, law, and thousands of other professions in the world, is a livelihood that can provide not only supplementary income but also allows you to live with dignity doing what you love most.
At the beggining of my journey in the world of dance, as with any profession, there are several years of financial investment as I specialize, learn, and train. i grew up in a small village in Israel, and had very limited oppertunities to grow and work as a dancer, so i started saving up working on small dance gigs and waitress and I left my home in Israel at the age of 18 . With my savings, I arrived in Los Angeles to train and learn from the best choreographers in the field. I dedicated years to mastering the my craft and reaching my full potential. After nearly a year in LA, i traveled to perform with “the richfam” project in Spain, Per & Australia which made me see clearly what is the next step in my career- to combine my two greatest passions: dance and travel. each country added so much to my movment vocabulary and artisty i was so inspired that i just knew i needed more. At that moment, I did not yet know exactly how it would happen, but through hard work and dedication, the universe ensured that I could prove to everyone around me that not only could I dance, but I could truly turn it into my source of income.
when the pandemic hit i was brought back home to Israel. However, it was clear to me that my dreams couldn’t be halted there; I wouldn’t be stuck in Israel. So I packed my suitcase again and flew to Mexico, which at that moment was the most accessible destination during the pandemic. I arrived in Mexico and began connecting with the dance community there. The opportunity to teach presented itself relatively quickly and ignited my love for sharing my art. After a few lessons in Mexico and with the help of social media and the training I had undergone over the years, I succeeded in leveraging my teaching career. I began traveling the world and teaching dance. Since Mexico, I have taught in Peru, Chile, Argentina, Spain, Germany, Poland, Ukraine, Uruguay, Italy, and the list goes on. I worked and performed in Europe and South America and turned my greatest love into my source of income.
Not only do I get to give and receive enrichment from various cultures around the world, but I have also been fortunate to work in what I love most while traveling the globe. As the saying goes, ‘Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.'”

Maya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Maya Agasi, 24 yearos old dancer & teacher
my journey into the world of dance began at a young age in Israel. From the moment I discovered my passion for dance, I knew it was more than just a hobby—it was my calling. At the age of 18, I made a decision to leave my home in Israel and embark on a journey to pursue my dreams. I spent years honing my skills, training rigorously, and collaborating with renowned artists in Israel before venturing to Los Angeles, where I immersed myself in learning from some of the best choreographers in the industry.
My dedication and hard work paid off, as I soon found myself teaching and performing across the globe. From Mexico to Argentina, from Spain to Ukraine, I’ve had the privilege of sharing my love for dance with diverse communities and cultures. Teaching heels classes became a particular passion of mine, as I believe in empowering dancers to express themselves confidently through movement.
What sets me apart is not only my technical proficiency and experience but also my deep-seated belief in the transformative power of dance. Beyond just teaching steps, I aim to inspire every dancer I encounter to pursue their dreams relentlessly and fearlessly. Whether it’s through workshops, performances, or online platforms, I strive to create an inclusive and supportive environment where dancers can thrive and grow.
I take immense pride in the journey I’ve carved for myself and the courage it took to leave my family, friends and comfort zone to chase my dreams and turning my passion into a profession. My brand is built on authenticity, dedication, and a commitment to excellence in both teaching and performing. For potential clients, followers, and fans, I want them to know that my classes and workshops are not just about technique; they are about unlocking creativity, building confidence, and embracing individuality on the dance floor.
my goal is to inspire my followers to dream big and follow their passions, just as I’ve been fortunate enough to do throughout my career.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn the belief that there is only one definition of “success.” Often, as young people, we are shown a specific path to success: finish high school, go to college or university, get a degree, find a well-paid job, get married, have kids, and so on. However, as someone passionate about the arts and wanting to choose a different path, I had to disconnect from society’s narrow definition of success. I needed the courage and self-trust to know I could “make it” in life without a degree or following the same path as my childhood friends.
I am deeply grateful for my parents, who were more open and supportive than anyone could ever imagine. They allowed me to choose my own path and make my own decisions, trusting me to succeed even if I didn’t put all my efforts into traditional school or work. Their support allowed me to flourish in my own journey.
Success comes in many different forms and shapes, and has a different meaning to every person. We can’t let anyone make us believe that there is only one way to get there.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding parts of being an artist is seeing the impact my work has on others. Once I perform my dance or step on stage, or choreograph for an event, I never know where someone might take it. Once my art is out in the world, it’s not just mine anymore—it belongs to anyone who encounters it, and I never know what the impact will be. When people come up to me and say I inspired them or that my art moved or touched them, it’s one of the best parts of what I do. Knowing people look up to you, and want to hear what your art has to say, knowing people get inspired by my journey ,connecting with people from all over the world on a deep emotional level, often without even using words, is incredibly fulfilling.
