We recently connected with Maxyme and have shared our conversation below.
Maxyme, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The project I’m currently working on is the most meaningful one of my career. I’ve never felt more accomplished as an artist. I know my sound and what I stand for as an independent artist. I’m working on my first EP, and the first single from it will be released in the first two weeks of November.
This song, called “Party Girl,” is the first I’ve ever written about my personal struggles. It captures the quiet yet powerful emotions of an introvert navigating a world that often feels too loud. Inspired by a night out with friends, I realized I’m much more at ease in the comfort of my own home, binge-watching Netflix. The song dives into the challenges of trying to fit in, the discomfort of social expectations, and the relief of staying true to oneself rather than following the crowd.
For me, this song represents a relatable anthem for introverts—people who thrive in solitude but sometimes feel pressured to blend in. The entire EP is about personal struggles, and my hope is that it resonates with others who face similar challenges.
Maxyme, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a 21-year-old singer-songwriter from Montreal, and I’ve been singing my whole life. My mom always tells me that I was humming before I could even speak. I sing pretty much every day, from morning to evening. My musical universe is mostly rooted in Pop, Pop-Rock, and Folk. I wrote my first song when I was 12, and I haven’t stopped since. Songwriting is my way of escaping the real world—it’s like therapy for me.
My upcoming material is centered around real experiences that young introverted adults can relate to. I want to share how I feel through these songs and eventually perform them live.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I’ve had a few experiences with people from the music industry who worked with me and made decisions that I wasn’t fully aware of or didn’t understand at the time. I think that in the music industry, it’s really helpful to have a good grasp of different aspects of the field. When you understand how various parts come together, you can work better with your team and offer valuable input. This way, you can make sure the final product matches your vision and expectations. Knowing a bit about everything helps you make smart decisions and steer clear of potential issues. It also means you can keep an eye on the whole process and help create something that truly reflects your artistic goals. That’s why I chose my school degree with this approach in mind—so I can gain a well-rounded understanding and be more effective in my career.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, when I receive the final mix and master of a song I’ve been working on for months, it’s the most satisfying feeling. It’s in that moment, listening to it, that you realize just how much effort and passion went into every detail. You remember the first time you started writing the song, the rough draft, all the creative highs and lows, the endless tweaks, and the inspirations that shaped it. Hearing it all come together in the end is like reliving the entire journey, and that’s when it truly hits you—how far it’s come.
