We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Max Venus a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Max , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I would say the most meaningful project I’ve made thus far would be my album “25”.
The project consists of 17 tracks all produced by myself. I chose the name because I was born on the 25th day of September. That number has always meant a lot to me so I thought it would suit the theme of the album.
I wanted to go back to my roots with this one & really give my fans an update on my life as a person, not just an artist.
“25’” reminds me of when I released my first mixtape “Sapphires On Venus”. There was lots of storytelling and in-depth look into my life. There were a lot of personal messages & things put into both of those projects & that’s the type of music that is relatable & makes you feel something.
Max , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I really started just practicing raps that my older brother would write & eventually I started writing my own rhymes. Then I got into recording myself instead of going to a studio so I learned a lot about engineering through tutorials on YouTube. I started dabbling into producing my own instrumentals shortly after & I just kept riding the tide & ended up falling in love with both of those crafts too.
In 2015, my cousin Javier contacted me around the time that I graduated high school & sent me some demos he created. I saw & heard so much potential in him right away, he’s also a graphic artist so that was a major plus.
We created a logo & a name for a record label, OuterZone.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
When people who listen my music tell me that my words have impacted their life. It’s always been my intention to connect with others through my music because I know it can be hard to express your feelings publicly so it makes me happy when someone can relate to my story.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The endgame is to change lives & be free from all the social norms & the systematic maze we live in. You have the power to make your dreams come true!
