Hello, I’m Max Rizzo, co-founder of CoolCat Coolers. Our journey into the portable beverage cooler industry is rooted in a story that started with my dad’s inventive spirit. Inspired by the idea of using an Ace Hardware bug sprayer filled with vodka ice tea as a makeshift on-the-go beverage dispenser, we identified a need for improvement—lack of insulation and the need for continuous pumping. This led to the creation of CoolCat, the world’s first mega-insulated beverage dispenser that auto-pumps at the press of a button.
I’m proud to say that CoolCat Coolers is the result of a collaborative effort between my dad, myself, and our business partner, Thomas. As we gear up to deliver our first run of inventory to customers, just in time for Christmas, I reflect on the challenges and hurdles we’ve overcome. As recent graduates of University of Tampa’s undergrad and graduate business school this venture represents mine and Thomas’s first real business, and reaching this point is a source of immense pride and gratitude.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I’ve known my dad for my entire life, so I’ll share the story of how I met my business partner, Thomas. Our paths crossed during my senior year in our capstone class. What struck me about Thomas was his exceptionally unique background—he was involved in building vintage motorcycles and documenting his work on his Instagram page under the brand Mile Zero Racers.
Thomas’s ability to build a brand and achieve significant traction and success, garnering views in the millions, was nothing short of astonishing to me. It was evident that he possessed a special set of skills that could contribute immensely to the business world. Intrigued by his background and impressed with his entrepreneurial spirit, I approached Thomas with the idea for CoolCat Coolers.
What stands out about Thomas is not only his creative prowess in building brands but also his willingness to play devil’s advocate. When I initially presented the concept to him, he didn’t hesitate to challenge it and provide valuable insights. Since then, Thomas has played a crucial role in shaping and molding our business into what it is today.

During our soft launch pre-order campaign, maintaining open lines of communication with our customers was paramount. We recognized the significance of keeping our clients informed about the manufacturing progress to build trust and transparency. Throughout the manufacturing journey, we made it a priority to stay in touch with our customers, providing constant updates on the production process. This approach not only kept our clients in the loop but also fostered a sense of community and loyalty around the CoolCat Coolers brand. By prioritizing communication, we ensured that our customers felt valued and engaged, laying the foundation for a lasting relationship beyond the initial purchase.
