Max, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with what makes profitability in your industry a challenge – what would you say is the biggest challenge?
Coming from a digital marketing background, there is a lot more than meets the eye when it comes to getting a good online marketing channel running, A lot of cannabis companies lack the resources and skillset to build their own websites and integrate everything correctly, they are making bad decisions when it comes to who they hire to build and manage their websites.
More often than not, they get stuck into a contract with a company that more or less holds their website hostage in a contract where the client owns NONE of their own digital content. This means that they continue to pay thousands of dollars monthly for a website that they don’t own.
Odds are they are doing this with multiple digital services that also includes menu and marketplace platforms, and that adds up to thousands of dollars every month for something that they don’t own.
We aim to help educate the cannabis business owner on smarter business practices when it comes to their online marketing.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I built my first cannabis website in 2016 for a delivery company in AZ.
We went on to help a number of hemp and cannabis businesses build their businesses online and continue to do so today.
I have had the pleasure of speaking at dozens of cannabis events including Kushcon, Cannabis Marketing Summit as well as cohosting the award winning MITA Unshackled podcast.
As a small business owner, I have a tendency to look at everything from a SBO standpoint, My agency does it’s best to help small to medium sized businesses attract the right people and increase conversions and sales.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
To this day, it’s can always be the next month. When customers don’t pay on time, it affects everything.
It’s one of the major pitfalls of running a digital agency.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Earlier this year we launched a new set of software and payment options that threatened a lot of big operators in the cannabis space.
They put pressure on one of our partners to part ways with us… and we walked into a trade show with a product that didn’t work.
We spent the next 2 days talking to people and collecting leads that we knew at the moment that we couldn’t do anything with.
It set us back a few months, but it allowed us to step back and reevaluate what we were doing and how we were doing it. As of right now we are less than a month away from launching a suite of custom WordPress plugins that allow dispensaries to manage their online and in store sales from their website, without the use of multiple 3rd party POS and menu platforms.
It’s been over 2 years in development and it feels great to know that we are going to make a difference finally.
