We recently connected with Max Corona and have shared our conversation below.
Max, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?
I have always been the working type. Wake up, clock in and and dedicate my time and energy to my employer. After all this time I realized that I always put my job first and I see now that I had sacrificed so much of myself and the important things in life for an employer.
Recently, I realized that I was expendable to all other businesses. No matter how much I gave them, it would never be enough. It was as if dedicating time to my mental health and to my family was not beneficial to them and would become a conflict.
In my experience, we spend so much time working for others—too much time. We eventually burn ourselves out, decline, and lose that spark that we had when we started.
I think we’re better off putting our energy towards things that actually matter to us, things that bring us joy and have a positive impact on the people who appreciate them—and us.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I just want people to know that they are not alone in the way they feel and think. I use art as a healthy outlet. Some people dance, some people are into physical fitness but me, I paint.
I just want people to find their healthy outlet and if I can do that by showing them I found mine, mission complete
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I wish I had more of a support system when I was younger. I wish I knew about events, grants, like minded groups and teams. etc .
We can’t do everything on our own. So I’ll be the one who helps people know that they are not alone.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I love seeing my ideas come to life, and I look forward to seeing how far I can take them.
I think of people like Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, Stan Lee, and other amazing creators. I hope to one day create something that lives long after me.
