We recently connected with Max Avery and have shared our conversation below.
Max, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
Success often hinges on nurturing important connections. It’s not just about knowing people; it’s about understanding how you can offer them something extra beyond your initial interaction. Helping someone once doesn’t mean you can’t assist them again in the future with something else they may find valuable.
Invest time in getting to know your clients and their longer term business goals. Periodically revisit your contact list to stay up-to-date. A personal CRM is key to being on top of things, but you don’t need anything fancy; even a basic spreadsheet can help you maintain these valuable relationships.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I always had an interest in creating growth with any job I’ve ever had. What’s ultimately taken me to where I am now is that I enjoy building a foothold for a company and finding ways to optimize reach to create more opportunities, provide more value to clients and create as many wins as possible for everyone involved.
My latest project has been scaling Syndicately, a special purpose vehicle management platform for 506(b) and 506(c) funds. It’s been really rewarding to be able to help investors and fund managers come together with more velocity and ease the entire process so they can focus on getting the deal done.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I try to engage with at least one new person a day in some way – that can be online or in person. Building those relationships and finding ways to identify an opportunity with anyone new you meet is really a great way to bring new clients in the door.
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Jake Claver and I that have been doing a significant amount of work together met on Twitter. We were involved in a lot of the same discussions around economics and digital assets and ended up on quite a few “spaces” discussions. We had a conference we were both attending together and it made more sense to drive, his house was along the highway where we were heading and we got a lot of windshield time to talk through what we both had going on and the rest is history.
