We recently connected with Mauricio Ginestra and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mauricio thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I would say that covering entertainment, has given me the opportunity to find purpose in many projects I’ve had the privilege of developing but, as a writer at heart, which is the craft I absolutely enjoy the most, writing scripts for tv has been a huge achievement for me. Listening my creation in voice of others on screen is a delight, and a reassurance that I am, somehow, doing things right. Meaning is a big word and I try to find it in every single thing I do professionally. When you love your work it shows.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve started covering entertainment by chance. Creating a website with my brother Antonio Couto called Popticular.com. Due to our hard work it grew exponentially and it opened doors for me in other areas such as local radio, tv, even written press, which is something I am forever grateful.
Today I am also a TV Host for a weekly morning show called La Buena Onda, at TVV Network.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I live with a chronic illness (MS). As you can imagine, I’ve had my ups and downs, not only physically but also emotionally. A very good friend and colleague told me once “you are always defying life”, and honestly, I think that’s exactly what it is all about. I’ve learned to never take no, to be persistent, to be on time, to show up and do the work, honestly and with passion.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Not only society, I think the key to success is collaboration and support. It might sound cliche, but there’s enough space for everyone and in this business, as with any others, there’s ego, there’s bad energy, and I’ve found that to be absolutely useless. Let talent and work speak for itself. Life does the rest.
