Maurice , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.

Learning my craft took a lifetime to learn it started as a kid in the country of South Carolina which installed hard work and mental toughness in me. As an adult I protected my craft training at the toughness gyms in the Carolinas against some of the top martial artists in the world

My name is Maurice Morris I am a professional bare knuckle boxer. I am currently the number two contender for the BKB world championship

Is there mission driving your creative journey?

What’s driving me is I want to become a world champion I want to show all of the black boys that feel like they are up against too much that they still have a chance if I can do what I’m doing after all I’ve been through it may not be over for them

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

When I started fighting at 30 years old everyone said I was too old to start a fight career. But I knew different I knew I was good enough but I didn’t have much time to get started. The first gym I joined was incredible but the coach there said he thought I should train for another year then we could start my fight career. I left to find a coach who seen the vision I was seeing. I ended just dropping into gyms for about two months until I found Josh at ox fitness after the first day of training with him I told him what I wanted and he said he he could get me fight and believed in me I fought every few weeks to build my reputation sacrificeing so much time with my new wife and kids until I got singed to a major promotion
