We recently connected with Maurice McGee and have shared our conversation below.
Maurice, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I was always good at English in school, I use to love to read books, write my own stories. I literally was happy to pick up a pencil and just write. So I think having a love for English in school helped me realized that I could be an artist. I could have been more aware when I was younger that I wanted to be an artist, so I could have started earlier on my journey. Reading and writing for me. I always made sure my works were good. I was terrible at focusing
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m almightygang Reece I am a music artist. I have over 30 tracks that’s original works, I have over 27k streams on all platforms. Im from New Orleans Louisiana but grew up in the Midwest. Saint Louis county, Missouri. I always had friends that did music or would be producers and or engineers. I recorded my first song which was Run it Up. Long time ago. When I was about 15 or 16. 2 years later I would have a record with Chasethemoney and recording artist KingB. I’m most proud of the fact that I haven’t given up, that I still choose to create.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding about creating is that when you think nobody paying attention, or nobody is listening, and you get proved wrong. You get shown why you should continue to create. Even small wins are still wins.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
So when I did secure the record with Chasethemoney and KingB, I would always ask myself what’s next, what do we do now. We got a hot track, we getting radio spins, what do we do next? We had no guidance, nobody in our corner, nobody reaching out to us. We just had a hot track. I got discouraged, I stopped making music for a few years. I didn’t have the confidence to go through that again. Or so I thought.
