We were lucky to catch up with Maurice King-Clark recently and have shared our conversation below.
Maurice , appreciate you joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your business and how did you resolve those issues?
As a business owner there are always issues and unexpected problems. It’s to be expected, in fact after a while you get used to it and get really good at solving them. When I first got into real estate (fix and flip) literally everything is an educated guess. As an example, questions like what can I get the house for and how much money will go into fixing it are all kind of guesstimated. My first house was purchased with the idea of a $10,000 renovation budget until we found plumbing issues lol. That quickly turned the budget to almost $20,000 very quickly not to mention the deadlines are all messed up now lol. That being my first project I thought it was a failed project. In hindsight I actually expect unexpected issues now!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an actor and author as well! My first book “ How to love a woman” was released in 2022 and my first children’s book “ Hey You” will release in 2023. I’ve also done 4 movies, 1 short film, 1 commercial and 2 stage plays. I guess you could say I’m addicted to challenges lol. I’ve always wanted to act but decided to give it all I had about 2 years ago. What sets me apart is I’m an actor who happens to be a big guy and not a big guy who happens to act. It’s starting to open up some pretty big doors for me in just a short time so I’m extremely proud of that. Maurice King-Clark is the name so keep an eye open!
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my reputation was built over many years of not just being in business but being myself in business. People know that they’re going to get a certain level of quality, consistency and customer service. I believe in high customer service and making things right for the customer or client in the event that they’re wrong! People know about me and my brand and I’m super proud of that!
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
About 2-3 years ago I pivoted from being an entrepreneur to adding actor and author to my brand. It was and still is one of the best decisions I’ve made. Pivoting and evolving or even career changes are a necessary part of life. While I’m not encouraging anyone to just be all over the place lol, changes and upgrades are a wonderful thing!
