We were lucky to catch up with Maurice Clark-Wilkinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Maurice thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
First and foremost, thank you for sitting down with me, I am very humble for the opportunity.
To answer your question the process to get to this point was very tough. I can recall not having any money in the bank, losing my job, and having my car was repossessed. It was such a low point in my life feeling so defeated and having no idea what I was going to do. But it was in my zero hour I remembered one important thing and that was God. So, let me be clear when I tell you that this was never an idea, but more so a promise and I say that because had I not turned to God not only would I not be here, but I never would have been bold enough to stand firm in faith and make a promise to God. That promise being that if he brought me through and blessed me no matter how big or how small then I would make it my business to bless others.
So when he answered that prayer, I honored my promise with some much needed help from my Closest Friend/Co-Ceo Pastor Derrick Grant of Kindgom Nation Church and from there what started In November 2020 as Take It To The Streets Incorporated has now transformed into Kingdom Business Incorporated.
So to those reading this article. Please understand that God’s grace is sufficient for thee and he truly does rain down upon the just and the unjust. So God I Thank You for never removing your hands off my LIFE.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Maurice Clark- Wilkinson and I am 32 Years old. I got into activism because I have a heart for the people and I know that there are many people that are going through the things that I’ve went through, so I am just answering the call that God placed upon my life. As far as my answering the call to ministry that took a minute, because I always ran from it, but God eventually got my attention, and I couldn’t forfeit the anointing on my life any further.
We’ve hosted various food drives, toy drives at Christmas time, community baby showers, we also choose two high school seniors every year that get accepted to HBCU’s and pay for everything that they need for their dorm rooms, and we recently blessed a high school senior buy surprising him with a custom-made suit for his prom. Shoutout to Mr. Horace Grant at Top Hats and Tails in Maplewood, New Jersey for helping us make that happen.
As far as what I am proud of, I would have to say the amazing work that we’ve done over the past three years, because ministry is never easy and requires a lot of time, focus, discipline, and prayer. Like scripture says to whom much is given much is required. Don’t get me wrong with face a lot of adversity and the enemy fights us constantly more so me, because I am at the helm, but God continues to cover us and keep his righteous right hand on Kingdom Business.
What I want people to understand that Kingdom is more so a lifestyle than it is a brand. See we honor God every day and put him first constantly. We pray daily and we have our moments when we fast. Another important thing is that while we’re giving things away, we are planting seeds of hope and faith while also being a beacon of both hope and light in dark times.
How’d you meet your business partner?
I met my co-founder Derrick Grant in 2019 in Bayville, New Jersey through Apostle Laura Anderson, when he saw me, he said yea you definitely have the spirit of Peter upon you, I can tell you about that action and trust me he wasn’t lying. But he saw the best in me, and not once did he judge me, instead he took me under his wing and mentored me eventually becoming my best friend and when I presented to him what I was setting out to do he didn’t hesitate to join me on this journey, and he has been my right hand.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson that I had to unlearn is that it’s not okay to cry and be vulnerable, I say that because growing up I had to be hard, have thick skin, and I had to fight, because crying and being vulnerable wasn’t allowed at home and it wasn’t a part of how I was raised, you either had to man up or be soft, I couldn’t smile or any of that. I had to watch my back and always stand 10 toes down. So, you can say I grew up in cold-hearted environments where love was non-existent.
So, as I got older, I got a chance to see what love was really about and I owe that to my grandmother Jesse Wilkinson (who remains with me in spirit) for being the best grandmother ever showering me with love through both good times and bad times, my only wish is that she could be here to see all that I’ve accomplished.
My home girl Montana for encouraging me to release all emotions and to never give up or forget who I am,
my boy Anthony Bradshaw who introduced me to Christ when I was 16 years old.
So, you see had I never shed a tear or made myself vulnerable to GOD and had not humbled myself before GOD then not only would I not exist, but Kingdom Business wouldn’t exist either and I show much appreciation to Shayla McDaniel who reminds me every day to keep being vulnerable with GOD.
