We were lucky to catch up with Maurice Carthon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maurice, thanks for joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I don’t know if I came up with the idea more than I just wanted to be able to capture the beauty that everyone missed. From living on the 11th and 13th floor of my Grandmother’s condo in Coney Island, looking out of the window and seeing the ocean and the pier. Or seeing the family photographer and getting inspired to do photography too. My friends in the neighborhood back home couldn’t see how great my view was. I just want everyone to admire the same beauty that I was able to see. My mom was also a bus driver in Manhattan, going to work with her some days I was able to see all the action in the city and aspired to document everything I’m seeing.
With that being said, why wouldn’t it be worthwhile? Who doesn’t want to see themselves on a big billboard or video screen. I want to have people that look like me smiling and shining in an image that I created. Doing Photography just made sense for me, I always knew I would succeed.
I love to help bring the best out of people. My goal is to use comedy to make people feel good while I also make them look good in my images.
Maurice, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being from New York City, there’s so much inspiration around all the time. With the bright lights and the big city, there’s always so much to do and see. From living in Coney Island with my Grandmother, seeing the ocean and the pier to the exotics of the big buildings and fancy cars in Manhattan. With all this around me constantly I was destined to do something great. I wanted to be able to show my friends back in Brooklyn all the beauty they were missing in Coney Island. As I traveled to places like Baltimore Inner Harbor and Centennial Park in Atlanta, it made me want to capture that beauty more and more. I also had inspiration as a young boy from our family photographer. We would visit the photo studio and I’d be drawn in by all the excitement. Being able to capture people in their own elegance was something I truly enjoyed, so opening Carthon Studios and doing Photography always felt like it was meant for me.
At Carthon Studios we offer Filmmaking, Photography and Videography services to our clients. We also offer Image Retouching and Video Editing services as well. Our goal is to make every client feel and look like a star while having fun. We take pride in creating an experience for our clients that is so welcoming and exciting that they’ll want to continue to work with us and tell everyone they know about how great of a time they had. What sets us apart is our dedication to making our clients feel as awesome as we already think they are. All while providing them flawless images to last a lifetime.
I’m most proud of taking that step and making the decision to get started and turn my dreams into a reality. I was able to overcome the naysayers and do what I’ve always wanted to do and that’s open my Photo Studio and create beautiful visuals. I want my potential clients to know that when you work with Carthon Studios, you’ll experience so much love and laughter that you’ll want to keep working with us again and again.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My number one goal as a creative is to share my limelight with those that want to shine too. Some people need help to really be the star that they are and with Carthon Studios I’m able to help bring the best out of people and capture that greatness for everyone to witness.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect to me is being recognized as the creative I am. When I get praised on my Photography and Filmmaking, I feel accomplished. It’s a confidence boost when you put your best foot forward to make something great and it’s also received well by those who value great work as well.
