Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maurice Brown. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maurice, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
I went years and years getting friends and family travel deals. When it was time for someone to travel, they would call me. I’ll search and find them a deal and they would enjoy their travels. So one day I decided, I should be getting paid to do this! So I started my journey on being a certified travel agent. Started in 2021 and have more than $100,000 in travel sales. I still love helping others save money and hearing their travel stories when they return.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Maurice Brown, CEO of Away From Home Vacations. I’m from Tallahassee, FL which is also where our business is located. I got into the travel agency business because I love to help others and I love to travel. Assisting others to do something I love to do becomes very satisfying. I offer travelers cruise, flight, resorts/hotels, excursions packages and many more services that a traveler may need to enjoy their trip. There’s not a trip too small or big that I wouldn’t want to be apart of.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
Word of mouth is still my #1 most effective way to grow my clientele. The experience the travelers have, the easy process of booking, and most importantly, the money that is saved, always has business on the rise. If I saved you money on your dream trip, wouldn’t you tell a family or friend who would like to plan their trip? Exactly! Every traveler I have worked with, told someone else about Away From Home Vacations.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
There was a time, a woman, her child and niece was stuck at the airport because of a delay due to the airline. I worked hard to get the travelers back home in a timely manner so they wouldn’t have to stay another night in that particular city. Staying another day would’ve resulted in more money spent on hotel and food, a day of work and school missed and a host of other problems. I was able to call the airline, and the airport, and get them on another plane back home so their usual duties wouldn’t be affected. It took some time but I got it done!
