We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maurene Schuler. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maurene below.
Maurene, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
A few years ago, I took one of the biggest risks of my life: I co-founded Central Coast Justice, a female-led legal support business serving San Luis Obispo County. At the time, I had very little experience in the legal support industry. I convinced my dear friend who had tons of experience to be my partner and teach me what she knows. Stepping out to build something of our own, something bold, client-centered, and unapologetically woman-powered…. was terrifying.
There was no safety net. No guaranteed income. Just a vision: to create a business that delivered exceptional process serving, mobile notary, and court-run services with integrity, efficiency, heart, kindness and grit. I wanted to build a brand that empowered clients and elevated the standard of professionalism in our field.
The early days were intense. We had to build everything from scratch, our systems, branding, client relationships, trust. I wore every hat: operations manager, marketer, service coordinator, and problem-solver. There were moments of doubt, especially when cash flow was tight or logistics got messy. But I kept showing up. I kept refining. I kept believing.
Today, Central Coast Justice is thriving. We’re known for our reliability, warmth, and precision. I hope most of all we are known for our kindness and grit. We’ve built a reputation that reflects not just our services, but our values. And personally, the risk has transformed me. I’ve grown as a leader, a communicator, and a woman in business. I’ve learned to trust my instincts, speak with clarity, and lead with both grit and grace.
Taking this risk didn’t just change my career, it changed my life. And I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
The Heart Behind Central Coast Justice
At Central Coast Justice, we solve problems that most people don’t even realize they have., until they’re in the thick of legal logistics, deadlines, and procedural chaos. We step in with clarity, precision, and calm. Whether it’s a law firm needing reliable process serving, a client navigating service within court timelines, or someone urgently requiring a mobile notary, we make the complex feel manageable.
What sets us apart is not just what we do…it’s how we do it. We’re a female-led business rooted in San Luis Obispo County, and we bring a rare blend of professionalism, warmth, and empowerment to an industry that’s often rigid and impersonal. We don’t just deliver documents. We deliver kindness and peace of mind. We don’t just run to court. We run a tight, respectful operation that honors both the law and the people behind it. We treat all our clients as our neighbors because here in SLO County we are all friends and neighbors.
We’ve built systems that streamline communication, reduce errors, and elevate our clients’ experience. We’ve created scripts and templates that make legal support feel human. We’ve shown that you can be efficient and kind, assertive and inclusive. That’s the culture we lead with.
I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve earned. We have a reputation not just for being dependable, but for being different. Clients trust us because we show up with integrity. They refer to us because we make their lives easier. And they stay with us because we treat every interaction like it matters because it does. We put our hearts into every job we do.
What I want potential clients, followers, and fans to know is this: Central Coast Justice isn’t just a business. It’s a reflection of everything I believe in—fairness, excellence, and the power of women leading with purpose. We’re here to serve, support, and simplify with love and kindness.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
From Side Hustle to Full-Time Legacy: The Rise of Central Coast Justice
Central Coast Justice began as a side hustle, just two women with grit, vision, and a deep respect for the legal support industry. My partner and I were both working other jobs while independently serving legal documents and, in my case, building a mobile notary clientele. We didn’t have a roadmap, just a shared belief that we could do things better: with more accuracy, more kindness, and more professionalism.
Milestone 1: Building Trust One Client at a Time
In the early days, we focused on consistency. Every job mattered. We showed up on time, communicated clearly, and treated clients with respect. Word spread. Attorneys started referring us. Clients returned. Our reputation for reliability and warmth began to take root.
Milestone 2: Learning the Craft from the Ground Up
I immersed myself in the attorney service world while learning how to navigate court systems, locate evasive individuals, and handle complex filings. I leaned into investigative work, mentored by a retired private investigator who taught me how to find people others couldn’t. That skill became a signature strength of our business. During this time, I also obtained my CCPS status. Now both my partner and I are CCPS Process servers.
Milestone 3: Scaling with Intention
As demand grew, we formalized our systems. We created service templates, streamlined communication, and invested in branding that reflected our values: female-led, client centered, and results driven. We transitioned from side hustle to full time operation, opening our first office on the Central Coast.
Milestone 4: Expanding Our Reach
Today, Central Coast Justice operates out of two offices, serving San Luis Obispo County with a full suite of legal support services. We’re proud to be known not just for what we do but for how we do it. Our reputation is built on accuracy, empathy, and the ability to get the job done when others can’t. This journey has transformed my life. I’ve grown as a leader, a communicator, and a business owner. What started as a side hustle is now a thriving career and a brand that reflects everything I stand for. We trained and have added servers to our team who serve the Central Coast Justice way.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
What truly set us apart was our consistency. We built trust by being reliable, responsive, honest and results driven. We also leaned into our strengths as women: our attention to detail, our ability to de-escalate tense situations, and our commitment to clear, compassionate communication. Over time, word spread not just about what we do, but how we do it.
We’re proud to be known as the go-to female process servers on the Central Coast. Our brand stands for excellence, empowerment, and a better way to serve with kindness and compassion. That reputation wasn’t given, it was earned, one successful job at a time.
