We were lucky to catch up with MattOnTheTrack recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, MattOnTheTrack thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
From a young age I was introduced to instruments and music. I learned to play a few instruments with lessons but not for long mostly learnt by ear on my own. Once getting familiar with instruments and spending years going through fazes of different genres I had a pretty good understanding of what sounded good. I then was introduced to “fruity loops” or “fl studio” around 12-14 years old. I became obsessed, I wasn’t very good to begin with, but I use to come home from school and jump on the program, and on weekends… a few years into it I met some rappers/artists in the neighbourhood I grew up in and started to work with them and eventually networking and working with more and more artists. I love it and couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I create original sounds that all my artists love, I’m known for making pretty much any genre of music from hip hop to pop and even country. I like to create timeless music with my artists, wether we create it together in the studio or we create from different parts of the world, or e come up with amazing music! A few artists love sending me raw vocals, and I create a new instrumental around it and they are always shocked at what I come up with. As a producer, I want to grow with my artists, it is a business but a business we can grow in together, it’s not just a quick buck. I want to create timeless music and provide the best experience for the artist.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Life of a producer and a creative is a hard journey, very few people believe in your big dreams, you never really necessarily know your outcome, you work hard and hardly get any return for years, in hope of some day “making it big”, you have to work hard lots of times working day jobs and working on your real dreams on your off time, for little result, it something about it just keeps me going, I couldn’t live without it.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to someday be financially free through music, at the same time creating timeless music around the world, I love seeing the reactions when people hear good music I’ve made, I would love to work with some of my favourite artists like Drake, central cee and burna boy!
