We recently connected with Mattilynn Cook and have shared our conversation below.
Mattilynn, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I learned from my mentor Naudia. My mom showed me a video of her organization asked me did I want to model and she signed me and my big sister up. I feel like I learn at my own pace. I’m a fast learner so it was pretty easy for me to be shown a model stance and catch on. My listening skills were most essential. My mentor can tell me something and I’ll catch on to it fast. the obstacles that stood in the way of learning more for me is me. sometimes I tend to fall off track and don’t be paying attention.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Mattilynn, but everyone calls me Prettymama. I got into the fashion/modeling industry because my big sister was on TikTok and came across a page called Doll Squad Kids Club. My sister showed my mom and she asked both of us did we want to join, and we told her yes.
I’m most proud of being able to stay consistent and perfect my craft. outside of doing shows in my hometown of Saint louis, I’ve done shows in Atl, Atlantic City, Peoria Illinois, Philadelphia, and New York. My mom showed me videos from when I first started modeling 2 years ago up until now and I can see the difference in my craft. I love modeling.
I want young girls who may want to model to know that they can be anything they put their minds to. I work hard. I practice hard. I watch videos of other models my age. one of my favorite models to watch her name is Aziya The Model, I follow her on Instagram, she so dope to me. I’ve met so many models that are the same age as me, that look like me and I love that.
One thing I would like you to know about me….. Im a Humble Beast on the Runway
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
the most rewarding aspect of being a model is being able to travel and showcase my talent. I’ve traveled to so many different places.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
the way I built my talent on social media is but constantly posting. I’ll ask my mom, or she will say come on daughter lets go do some content. So, Ill go down town, or to our community center, or the park and I’ll work on my model stance, my poses, etc. she a do videos of me in different sceneries, or take pictures of me and create content with that. I share on my social media pages, I send It to everyone. I constantly post and repost. the key for me is to stay consistent.
